etsy adore: mulberry street

This week’s Etsy Adore feature is Mulberry Street.

I’ve had items from their shop a few times on my blog. I also now own a pair of these and they are perfect! They are incredibly well made and so pretty. Jennifer was absolutely great to work with and she is giving a great prize to the winner of this giveaway! Let’s find out more about her and her shop first.

Tell us a little about you and your shop.
My name is Jennifer, and I live in Houston, Texas with my wonderful husband and two dogs.  I stumbled upon Etsy one day while reading dooce.com, and I was instantly smitten with the whole Etsy world.  I mean, what a fantastic idea!  It was during this time that I had recently graduated from law school and was taking some time off to rediscover my creative side.  I have always secretly wanted to own my own boutique, so I jumped at the chance to open up a shop on Etsy.  (Well, it wasn’t really that spontaneous.  It took a while to plan everything, but I was really excited about the initial possibility of having my own shop).  Since I first learned to crochet while living on Mulberry Street, I thought it would be fitting to name it after that.  Currently, my shop features crocheted accessories for women and now apparel for dogs.  I plan to delve into the home décor arena next.  My shop is just a great outlet to express myself.

How did you start crocheting?
I first started crocheting many years ago (wow am I that old already?) when I was attending New York University and living on Mulberry Street.  New York was bitterly cold during the winters, especially for a girl from Texas; I needed more scarves; and there wasn’t much to do when there was three feet of snow piled outside of my door, so I did what anyone in that situation would do—I picked up a crochet hook and some yarn, and the rest is history.   Well, that’s probably an over-simplification of it, but I must give some credit to my mom.  She was always sewing, crocheting, and knitting when I was little, so I think I inherited it from her.

I noticed you’re starting a new line of dog apparel.  Can you tell us a little about that too?
I think the creation of Linus + Hayley, which is named after my two dogs, was inevitable.  It was only a matter of time before I started making them clothes.  First of all, it’s pretty hard for me to find clothes that fit my pleasantly plump pups (one is a French Bulldog and the other is an English Bulldog), so I thought, why not make custom dog clothes?  Second of all, I have the cutest dogs ever (no bias here!), and they love to show off to the camera (or is it just that they love the treats behind the camera?)…

What is your favorite item in your shop?
Hmmm…this is a hard one.  I spend so much time on all of my creations, and I truly love all of them.  But if I had to pick just one, I’d say the Bamboo Shrug.  It’s great for the springtime and silky soft.  Plus, I’m really into the sage green color.

Name 3 of your favorite etsy shops.
Sew Bettie – I just ordered some awesome fabric from Sew Bettie.  Did I mention that said awesome fabric has French Bulldogs AND English Bulldogs printed on it??  How cool is that!

The Black Apple – I think the “Salt Meets Pepper” print would look lovely in my kitchen.

Kristybee – Her photographs are so serene.  The colors and subject matter of her work exude calmness.

Jennifer is giving one lucky reader a $25 gift certificate plus free shipping to Mulberry Street!
