Tell us a little about you and your shop…well, shops since you have two!
My name is Rachel, I’m 26 and I live in Georgia (for now!).  My husband and I run Cherry Blossom Co, a soap shop, and I run a separate handbag shop, Save Our Home, on etsy. Our house is in a constant state of disaster- it seems like we always have 20 different projects going on- yarn, soap stuff, fabric everywhere…….. the kids even get in on it too! I wouldn’t have it any other way though.

What did you start first, sewing or soap making? How did you become interested in each?
I started sewing first- when I was in high school. I remember my mother always sitting behind her sewing machine making clothes for all of my sisters- she taught me everything I know! I just love the thought of making something fabulous out of a piece of cloth and some thread. My husband and I started making soap a few years ago for fun.  I think that we wanted to learn how to do something together other than sit in front of the telly. So that was our hobby and we ended up with too much soap to use…. one of my friends told me about etsy and I thought it would be fun to try to sell our soaps. It was a huge hit- so we expanded to body butters and lip balms. This is my day job now, and I LOVE it! I can’t even imagine what it would be like to go back to the office again!!!! And now that we’ve started selling our soaps in stores, I may never have to!

What are you favorite items in each shop?
In my handbag shop: I love my oversized bags! I tend to carry my life around with me when I leave the house. I actually started making these when I had my second baby- I loath diaper bags, and wanted something hip to carry around with me! Now that the girls are a bit older, I use them to carry mail to the post office, weekend trips, some I take to the market with me- you name it!  As for the soap shop: I really like the chocolate soap, pumpkin soap, and cranberry soap! It’s hard to sell that last bar in the batch; I always want to keep if for myself! The body butters are really awesome too- a little goes a LOOOONG way……. I’ll never use lotion again!

What are 3 of your favorite etsy shops?
Just three? Oh man! Well, I spend a lot of money at friedokra’s shop (friedokra.etsy.com). Her monkeys are adorable!!! I also really like joclothing’s shop- great clothes! (joclothing.etsy.com). allisonstrine’s shop has fabulous magnets that I can’t stop buying! It seems like I give her all my money!!! There are of course, many other shops that I love- probably too many to name! Thank goodness for etsy!!!!!

  • I could resist the chance to visit both shops, they sounded so wonderful and I love to browse around. First I went to Cherry Blossom Co and what a fantastic Etsy Shop! I saw so many amazing luxurious items. My favorite is the Nag Champa Body Butter. Of course with this name I had to check out the ingredients and I have to say, a most unique blend that sounds intoxicating! Yumm……Then I went to Save Our Home because I am a real lover of handbags. Oh my goodness, I was like a kid in a candy store, just fantastic items there too! My favorite is the your everyday bag in grape. I felt that the violet or “grape” color was bright and bold and a fun color to have to accessorize and functionalize with! Thank you for introducing both of these terrific shops to us and for the opportunity to enter.
