summer days

This is how I’ve been spending my summer days.

A pile of library books and running around with Edie outside. She digs in her pool and tries to eat the water. Then she proceeds to roll in the only small patch of dirt in our yard because she loves me THAT much.

She’s lucky she is cute.

I’m going to stick with yesterday’s theme what you would do with ridiculous amounts of money.

Kinda.

I always say that if I get rich, one of the things I’m going to do is buy a ton of land and build a puppy farm. No, not like a creepy puppy mill. It will basically be a dog sanctuary for homeless puppies who haven’t found their families just yet. They won’t be locked up in tiny cages, will still be safe and fed and will get tons of love. Countless foofoo dog toys and peanut butter bones to cater to their every puppy whim.

And even though I’m not a big fan of cats, there will be a kitty barn too because well, I just can’t leave them out.

That would be my giving back because everyone knows what a sucker I am for dogs. Yes, the Sarah McLaughlin commercials make me cry and I’m not ashamed to admit that I have teared up at the Pedigree Dogs Rule commercials too. I’m sure that’s no surprise to anyone here though.

Mark my words, when I figure out what I’m doing with my life and it makes me millions, there will be a puppy farm.

(She doesn’t have laser eyes that burn through you in real life. Pinkie promise.)

My poor Edie had a rough day. She couldn’t walk straight from the wearing anesthesia. Was terrified I’d leave her again. Wouldn’t walk with the e-collar on. As soon as she came out from the examination room, the whole packed waiting room let out a collective “awww” and giggle and said how sad she looked.

Right now, she is sleeping at the foot of my bed wearing an old tshirt of mine that I have knotted in the back. She can’t lick her stitches with it on and now she will actually move from one spot instead of standing frozen like a deer in headlights.

I’ve been told to keep her calm for 10 days. Calm means no running, jumping, playing, etc. Do they not know that is all little Corgis are made of? It should be an interesting few weeks to say the least!

Thanks for the well wishes. This nervous mama appreciated it.

Hopefully she heals up soon and puppyness is back in full effect soon. We have playdates to schedule!

I’ve had dogs all my life. Really, ever since I can remember. We had my Leo dog (the greatest mutt ever), my Princess (who was my shadow 13 years), my dad’s dogs (including Winston/Smokey/fatboy) and now my Edie, who you all know and love. I really can’t imagine not having a dog in my life.

There are so many animals that don’t have families to love and they might never get the chance to bring that joy to someone else’s life. You might not be at the place in your life where you can adopt a dog or cat of your own or you might not want a pet but you can still help.

Who’s Your Dachshund? decided to help out 10 shelters in the US and Canada by forming Donate4Dachshunds.

Edie says every little bit helps so do it or she will NOM you to death.

It’s that time again, sports fans. Everyone is gearing up for the big weekend. Running around gathering their chips and dip, stocking up on chicken wings and most importantly, beer.

While some of you will actually be watching football like it matters, the rest of us will be tuned into the adorableness that is puppies running around playing, sleeping in water bowls and being all around cute.

I’m not really one who dresses Edie up. I think a coat is necessary sometimes because it’s cold but you won’t see me dressing her up in pajamas, “Bad to the Bone” shirts and fur lined, leopard print show girl dresses like some of those other dog people. I love my dog but choose not to dress her up completely ridiculous.

When I came across this little fleece coat in the $2 Target bins I couldn’t resist. Especially because I can do this and she will sit still so I can take a picture.

While I’m not a crazy dog dresser upper to the extreme, I’m still a total gusher about her cuteness.

Because really?

Today is Edie’s first birthday!

I wasn’t able to bring her home until the end of Feburary but today is when she was born. She was and still is by far the most adorable corgi you ever did see. Remember how tiny she was?

Edie is very bossy and independant. She likes things done on her time. No cuddles unless she feels like cuddling. Same for kisses. When you least expect it, you will pounced on and smothered with puppy love. Every time I walk down the stairs, she runs to the back door. She always wants to be outside even if she was just out. When I put on my shoes, pup can barely contain herself thinking she is going to go play. She runs around like a crazy face, tearing around our yard in circles and begging Winston to chase her only to repeatedly lap the little guy. Edie gives great hugs when I come home and right before I leave. She puts her paws up on my shoulders and gives me snuggle.

For her birthday Edie got snow. My brother shoveled the driveway and made a big pile for her. She sticks her nose in, eats some and will be shivering but refuses to go inside because she loves snow that much. You can see her jumping around at my feet because she loves it when it kick the snow for her to chase. Silly puppy.
