moving on

In November, I came across an ad looking for team members for a new media start up for a newspaper that would be printing out blogs. I sent an email and the next day heard back to come in from an interview. I was offered the job right on the spot. It was an internship but it didn’t pay but I could use the experience.

And that is exactly what I got.

I was there since day one. I got some of our most popular contributors. I created networks. I spread the word. I brought on new team members. I was in the New York Times. I worked 12 hour days and weekends. I spoke on camera which I hate doing and posed for pictures. I flew to New York. I passed out papers in the cold. I did everything because I thought it could be really cool if it took off.

But now it’s time for me to move on.

I’m happy I got the experience though. I met some amazing people from this. I am bummed about how things turned out because I feel like I did do so much. I’m leaving on my own terms though and am this close to finalizing a great new opportunity (keep your fingers crossed for me on that). I’m ready for bigger and better things.

It’s been a good run, The Printed Blog.

well

Let’s see…

I went to New York on Tuesday for the day. Wondered why there was garbage everywhere. Learned New York doesn’t have alleys (weird!). Ate in an Italian joint that felt like a movie with all the Italian dudes talking business in a corner table with their laptop and fancy water out. I hailed cabs unsuccessfully and walked around aimlessly in heels because I had no idea where I was. Mixed and mingled at Mashable’s NextUpNYC event. Drank wine and ate popcorn because I’m classy like that. Met up with some fabulous New York ladies and showed them how awkward I really am in real life. Missed out on meeting some of my absolute favorites. Ate a horribly overpriced burger and french fries you could taste the grease in at the airport. Proceeded to feel sick all day from it. Learned never to eat at Cheeburger Cheeburger again. Watched 3 episodes of The Dog Whisper on the flight home because Jet Blue rules with the tvs in the headrests.

I can’t wait to go back. And hey, I was only in New York for one day so just imagine what can happen when I get back there?

Then I came back home to reality. I’m not a fan of it these days.

I much prefer the jetset life. You don’t have time to think that way.

It all came rushing back as soon as I got home. I’m trying to do the right thing but I don’t know what the right thing is. I try following advice but then run back screaming in the other direction after trying because it hurts too much. I feel like people will judge me for the decisions I make and how I choose to deal with things. When that happens, I go back to my best friend who is the one everyone is telling me I need to stay away from. But he’s the only one who gets it.

I’m still trying to figure it all out.

(Please try not to be all Judgey McJudgerson in your comments because I KNOW you think I’m being stupid and this isn’t how I should do things)

The Printed Blog launches today!

Today we officially launched The Printed Blog here in Chicago and in San Francisco!

I stood outside in the freezing cold at the Blue Line Damen stop passing out our first issue. People were very receptive and we flew through copies. Some even came up to us asking if this was the blog newspaper!

Click, click!

oh hey! remember me?

Obviously, I’ve been busy with The Printed Blog. Putting together a newspaper seriously takes time away from personal internet time so both of my blogs and twitter have been seriously lacking.

My own reader?

Forget it.

I’ve seen the dreaded and panic inducing (1000+) for the past couple of weeks. I apologize for not being as visible as I usually  am. You guys know normally, I’m all up in everything and everywhere all the time!

Well now that our first issue has been pieced together, things will get easier. Instead of building from the ground up, we have a foundation and that is a relief. We officially launch The Printed Blog on Tuesday. It’s not even out yet and I’m thinking of ways to improve, make things flow more smoothly and stay more organized next time around.

Next time around if we are well received, that is!

It’s not any surprise to anyone if you follow me on Twitter, exactly how frazzled and nervewracked I’ve been the past few weeks. Working two jobs is exhausting. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have such long hours at job number one and was working on a deadline on job number two.

It will all pay off though – one way or another.

(Did you see me in The New York Times yesterday? Oh wait…you can’t see me all the way in the back. Trust me though, it is me and I’m not claiming to be some random  stranger. At least the photographer caught me smiling with my eyes, you just can’t see it.)

I’ll write more about The Printed Blog next week. I just wanted to let you all know I’m alive.

(and to tell you to go enter the giveaway for an iPod Touch at TPB’s blog and my giveaway for some fabulous green beauty products over on Oh How Lovely Shops.)

For now, since I’m behind on EVERYTHING, what’s been going on? New job? Buy something pretty? Suggestions on the fancy smancy, well deserved drink I will get once we launch? Feeling sick? Read a good book? Oscar predictions? Thoughts on the new Real World cast? (Yes, that’s how behind I am)

Talk to me! I feel out of the loop!

now I’ll never be America’s Next Top Model

First off, let’s give a round of applause to my guest bloggers this week! Michelle, Kyla and Brandy, take a bow, you girls are lovely and saved my poor blog from a week of neglect!

It’s like negative 30 billion degrees out here in Chicago. Yesterday while walking to the office, my hair was freezing, face red and my glasses were icing over. Obviously, I walked into the office looking absolutely stunning. Oh and then a photographer from the New York Times came in to photograph us later. Oh during the shoot, I was sitting next to Lauren (she’s on our ad team and awesome!), who use to be a model.

Let’s break that down:

negative 30 billion degrees + red face  + sitting next to model + NYT photographer = me potentially look like a chubby hot mess in a future NYT article

I know you are itching to see if it prints and trust me, we should know soon.

Let’s just pretend it was a bad hair/face/body day and be done with it. Okay? My other option is finding every copy of the paper and taking a permanent marker to me if a photo has me in it. If I miss any, I expect you to do the same.

Can you tell I’m not a fan of photos?

Tyra will be disappointed in me.

Jamie = Smile With Your Eyes FAIL.

The Printed Blog: 2 weeks of giveaways

That’s right. We’re going to be handing stuff out left and right for the next two weeks. It’s going to be good stuff too! Do you really think I’d have my name attached to something boring and useless?

NO.

That’s why Jenn and I arranged some pretty fabulous giveaways.

Today we’re kicking things off with THREE Pro Flickr accounts.

Have a Flickr account but not a Pro one? Here’s your chance! Is yours ending soon? Let’s add more time! Not on Flickr? Well, we’re just going to have to start you off right with a Pro account!

Find out how to enter on our blog here. It ends Wednesday so make sure you don’t miss out.

Then stay tuned for more giveaways later this week. I won’t tell you exactly what they are but I’ll give you a hint: they rhyme with Farbucks and myTunes. Any guesses?

We do things big too so we’re definitely handing out more than a few of each. That means more chances for you to win!

Then next week? Well that one I’m keeping a secret. No hints because it’s just that good. It’s way bigger and way better than gift cards and Flickr accounts though, that’s for sure!

Why are you still here reading this?

the one where I could make excuses

I know, I know. I’m a bad blog friend. I’m not around as much. Not commenting or reading as much as I’d like. You’re probably not even reading these because I suck so much. I promise, I’m not ignoring you, “losing” your phone numbers blog addresses and breaking up with you.

It could be because I’ve been sick and feeling crappy.

It could be because Chicago is currently being mistaken for Antartica with all this ridiculous snow.

It could be I awesomely dropped my iPhone charger in a cup of pop (not soda).

It could be because I’m really in need of a hair cut.

It could be because I’m too busy chasing a puppy around in 30 feet of snow.

It could be I’m really mad I can’t find Greek: Chapter One.

But really?

It’s because I’ve been working crazy hard on trying to get The Printed Blog together. You try launching a newspaper in a month and a half!

I promise though, this blog won’t suck this week. I mean, I could have posted more Edie pictures but that’s like every other day here at the House of Lovely.

You people need variety.

And all I can manage to do is crank out is a list of possible could-be excuses.

Instead of leaving this blog cold and barren, I’ve scheduled some fabulous, funny and all around awesome guest bloggers to keep things lively around here. So check back Monday for a super fun announcement (from me) and then show my guest blogger friends some love this week?

I promise once things slow down a bit, I’ll stop being the neglectful blog friend that I am.

But, I’m trying to figure out ways to get as many of you guys in my paper as possible. One way or the other. It will be worth it!

the printed blog

As you all know, I’ve been super annoying about keeping my internship hush hush until  was able to. Well, now I can let the cat out of the bag. Or puppy since I like puppies better. The puppy is coming out of the bag!

I’m interning for a new media startup called The Printed Blog. It will be a twice daily printed publication with all our content being pulled from the internet…from blogs. We hope for everything to be user generated. You’re photos will be published, your writing, your music, your games, etc.

It’s all about you.

You can find out more about it on the blog I made for it. We’re still getting everything going and preparing for our launch next month and my next move will be to start signing up bloggers who’d like the opportunity to be published, more recognition from a broader audience and eventually part of our ad revenue. Seriously, I’m like the blogger fairy godmother. Maybe I should put that on my business cards? Jamie Lovely: Blogger Fairy Godmother. It has a nice ring to it, no?

Anyway, It’s a very cool idea that has some serious potential if it takes off! Fingers crossed!

What I need from you guys is to go check out the blog to find out more info, follow us on twitter, join our Facebook group. Help make me look good in front of the boss man! haha

But really, this is an awesome opportunity to get involved and be part of something great and completely new!

so that was christmas?

Basically, I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with my stomach revolting against my poor body. I didn’t go to either of my Grandmas’ houses. I didn’t partake in Christmas dinner. I did not eat tamales.

TAMALES, PEOPLE.

I did not eat them.

That is fucking huge. If you don’t know, tamales are the whole point of Christmas. Seriously.

My Christmas was a big fail. Well at least when it came to the whole family and togetherness shit that I wasn’t even up for as it was. What was not a fail though, were my gifts. You can’t go wrong with Wall-E, money and Britney Spears tickets.

Yup, I’m going to see Britney! The boy got me tickets for Christmas! Yay me!

Right now, I’m at the internship working on some stuff. I know I’ve been all hush hush and super secret about this but that’s all about to end. I’ll be unleashing my project (well part of it) into blog world and twitter later today or tomorrow.

Get excited!

How were your Holidays? Also, tell me how excited you are for my super awesome project. It’ll make the boss man happy to see some interest.

Or just lie and pretend your interested.

Cool?

Cool.
