friends vs seinfeld

I have this theory.

I think most people are either a Friends kinda person or a Seinfeld kinda person.

Personally, I think Friends is the greatest show ever. I really doubt I could get sick of it. My sister has somehow managed to acquire the whole series so I’m waiting for her to burn everything for me because dude, 10 seasons? That shit is expensive. But I need it.

Anyway, I think it’s hilarious and can’t get enough. But I’ve met people who HATE Friends and think it’s not funny in the slightest.

And a lot of those people are all about Seinfeld. But I just don’t think Seinfeld is funny.

Where do you stand on this Very Important Issue?

OR

P.S. Friends is obviously the right answer here.
P.P.S. But I mean, I guess we can still be friends if you like Seinfeld.
P.P.P.S. Or if you don’t like either, you might not have a soul or sense of humor. Period.
P.P.P.P.S. Except Maggie because she is awesome and definitely is not soul-less. And we both find humor in watching baby hookers in go go boots named Tootie or Toddlers & Tiaras as some might call it.

Friends.
I have all ten seasons too and I freakin’ love them.
I do enjoy Seinfeld as well, but not as much as Friends. Seinfeld is my go-to show at the gym, as it’s quirky enough to help me not notice how much time has gone by.

Friends? It’s a comfort show. It’s a hilarious show. There are a lot of jokes/scenes/episodes I have forgotten about and always get excited to watch them again.

(If your sister doesn’t burn them soon, check out ebay. They usually have Friends “for sale” on there at reasonable prices. Also, Target has most seasons for about $20 bucks now, sometimes less during the holidays. It took me 5 years to get all 10 seasons!)

I’m definitely a Friends person. I also own all 10 seasons AND the board game. It’s one of those shows I can watch over and over again and still get a laugh out of it.
I agree with Nora that it’s a comfort show. Last winter when I was living alone in the middle of nowhere I’d watch it during dinner just to hear some familiar voices…wow, I swear I’m not as pathetic as that makes me sound. I do have actual real life friends, I just moved to the middle of the snow belt and none of them could get to me…annnyway, the point is, I kick ass at Friends trivia.

FRIENDS, definitely.

I’ll find something funny on Seinfeld every once in a blue moon, but I barely watch it and don’t find it particularly funny. My two guy friends from college LOVED Seinfeld, would show me clips, and I just didn’t get it.

Friends, on the other hand, is hilarious.

friends for sure. seinfeld is alright, like, if there’s nothing else on. it has its moments. but friends is always funny no matter how many times i see it. and oddly comforting.

you’re right, this is an important issue.

I’m glad you don’t think I’m soulless. and we all know I am basically hilarious so the sense of humour thing is also untrue.

but just because I don’t like either doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy watching creepy child pageants together haha. Especially Tootie, who referred to herself in 3rd person ALL THE TIME. WTF?

[Reply]

Hmmm. I gotta say – I like them both. I think they’re both fantastic shows that continue to be funny, regardless of reruns. With that said, if I had to choose one or the other, I’m with you. There’s a reason why I started collecting the Friends DVDs. :)

Funny you should ask this, Jamie! (And hello!!! I’ve been mostly lurking the past few months, but I’m getting back into the swing of things)

I’ve always been a Friends fan and felt so-so about Seinfeld. However, I’ve just started watching Seinfeld for the first time as an “adult,” and I have to say, I think that show is hilarious! I feel like I finally GET IT! Whereas, before, it was just okay. I find myself laughing a lot more than I ever did before. And the box set, in particular, is really awesome. There are “Inside Looks” after almost every episode which include interviews with some of the cast, writers and producers. It really was an incredible show and they pushed the boundaries when it comes to sitcoms.

Clearly I have an opinion on the matter. :) But I don’t blame you for your Friends affinity.

Ack! That is like asking a mother to choose between her children. A horrible, awful question. Plus – it is apples and oranges. I love them both for very different reasons. A day rarely goes by that I don’t make some sort of Seinfeld reference. But I heart Friends too – not as much for straight ha-ha humor but it was there. My favorite friends line ever? When Joey and Chandler leave baby Ben on the bus and go to pick him up. They can’t decide which baby his is and flip a coin. Joey: “Heads it is ducks and tails it is clowns because ducks have heads.” Chandler: “What kind of scary ass clowns came to your birthday party?”

My theory is that those of us 33+ lean more toward Seinfeld love and those younger lean more toward Friends love. But I love them both.

Friends is so amazing. So many great memories revolve around Friends. I can remember watching the season with Rachel being pregnant, wondering who the father was, sitting in the basement of my college dorm with a bunch of girls. My sister-in-laws wedding, we tied everything back to a Friends episode and quoted it all weekend. When I was pregnant, the last couple months we continuously were watching Friends, on loan from my cousin.

It is truly an amazing show. Sienfeld was good too, but didn’t have as much of a tug for me.

Baha! I saw that episode of Toddlers and Tiaras. That girl… Oh Lord.

I think this post is absolutely hilarious and SO true. It’s actually a theory I’ve had for years (ask Steph… a die-hard Friends person).

Personally, I love Seinfeld. Not the biggest fan of Friends, but mostly because of a certain person I grew up with who was completely obsessed and talked about it every day of my life, to which, being a tad prideful, I didn’t allow myself to give it that much of a chance. I’m sure I’d like it if I did though… but it’s kind of my thing now. haha.

I love both of the shows. I’m a lot more into comedy shows than reality or drama. I can’t pick which one I like better. It really depends on my mood.
