Here’s the thing about me. Once I get started with something, I need to know how it ends. Particularly with books and shows. I hate waiting to find out what happens.
This usually causes me to hole up in my room away from the world and internets until I finish whatever it is. Especially now that I’m looking for work, I spend a lot of time home sending resumes and emails. But basically, I have a lot of free time so get sucked into a new series or show.
You all may remember my reluctance to start reading Twilight then I read them all in three days. Because I just needed to know OMG did they finally just do it already?! Then I proceeded to push those books on many of you and got you all hooked.
Then there was Desperate Housewives. I know, kind of random, right? But you see, when you are unemployed such as myself and there is a show you have never seen that is on every day for two hours, it’s hard not to get sucked in. Plus, it’s on Lifetime and we all know my weakness when it comes to that goddamn channel. But yeah, so there was an episode last week that ends all, “5 years later…” and then the next day instead of picking up there, the whole series STARTS ALL OVER. And I’m like dude, where is Mike? And why does Gaby have two kids? And totally not surprised the twins are practically little felons.
I JUST NEED ANSWERS.
And don’t even get me started on the Sookie Stackhouse books*. Just don’t. These are the books that True Blood is based off of. Yeah, I flew through all of 8 or 9 of those in like a week and a half. Now I’m done with all the books that are out and I’m all WTF?! NEED MORE ERIC! and everyone is like “oh, the next book is out in October, it’s cool”.
OCTOBER? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? THAT IS LIKE 3 MILLION YEARS AWAY AND DEFINITELY NOT COOL. WANT ERIC NOW.
After I read the books I decided I needed to see the show. I’ve caught a few episodes randomly but I needed to see everything from the beginning. Then I downloaded season one and finished in like a day and a half. Right now, I’m downloading episodes 3 and 4 of season two and I’m practically staring at Azureus watching the seconds pass because it is JUST NOT MOVING FAST ENOUGH.
So yeah, I might have a touch of an addictive personality. But I just can’t help it, I love a story and knowing what happens.
I’m now looking for what I will start once I finish True Blood. I think it will be How I Met Your Mother.
* Read them. Do it. Charlaine Harris. Trust me, you’ll love me and hate me for recommending them but just do it.

Everyone is talking about these books. I should probably check them out.
Also, I’m just like you. I have to find out what happens on a TV show/in a book once I start. Delayed gratification just doesn’t do it for me.

I can’t figure out why I love the True Blood books but they are like candy – love them. I’ve only read the first 2 – I have this huge stack of books to read and can’t justify buying the other Charlaine Harris books (and my effing library doesn’t carry them – GAH!). But I will get back to them this fall. Is the TV show worthy? I’ve got it reserved on Netflix but haven’t moved it up my list yet. (LOVE HIMYM – great show. Also – love Big Bang Theory – if you have geeks in your life you will appreciate it.)

I purposely don’t watch TrueBlood on TV so I can binge through episodes that I’ve downloaded like five at a time. It can’t be healthy.

I am just like you. I was addicted to Desperate Housewives Greys and then it was Lost. Now, I can’t even watch regular TV because I hate waiting a week for the next show. I read Twilight and Harry Potter within a week. Most books within a day or 2. Now I really want to watch Sex and the City, but the dvd set is sooo expensive. I’m so getting that for xmas though!

Hmm, I’m kind of like that. I DO love reading series quickly to get answers – to find out what happens next. Yes, I do get addicted to them HOWEVER, I like that the books are spaced out sometimes. It means they’re not over, you know?

I’m exactly the same way… SERIOUSLY. We have like, 8 different shows going on at once.
Dexter is really amazing. I’d recommend that one for sure. And How I Met Your Mother will NOT disappoint either. Hilarious.
Now that I think about it… your Dazzle Me Edward post is the one that got me going on Twilight! hahaha

I just started the first book. I’m not quite far enough into it yet, but I like it. There was action in the first, what 20 pages?
Actually? I’m going to get some easy peasy dinner and keep reading.
PS
I’m sad you’re not coming to NYC. I wouldn’t be opposed to a…surprise of sorts.

I really hate to break it to you but the book coming out in October is just a collection of short stories that were published here and there in compilations so far. The next novel (#10) comes out in May 2010.
So much for the bad news, the good news are that there will be several more books.
I love the books as well and went through all of them at a rate of one a day a few weeks ago. Twilight went the same except in July and August last year. Like you when I get pulled into a story I need to know what happens right then and there. It only took me a couple of weeks to go through all the episodes of Lost so far in April last year and there are many more TV shows I watched at a rate of 8 episodes a day.

Haha that’s so me too. I shut the entire outside world when I’m hooked with something, its like that with twilight series, harry potter books, and a bunch of tv shows. I love True Blood as well.
HIMYM is a really good show, I think you’ll finish it quick as well, all four seasons. Then after that, try Tudors if you haven’t watched it. Sexy!

Everybody’s been talking about those books! I’ll have to read them after I finish my current book. I’m terrible when it comes to books, I’m the complete opposite too, I get halfway through a book and then it sits on my drawer for weeks because I get too busy or I start another book or something. By the time I realize I never finished it, I’ve lost interest. Bleh

I haven’t commented yet on your blog, but I just HAD to on this post! I am the exact same way the book and TV series. My finace and I watched the first 6 season of “24″ in a very short time on DVD. Then this last season we watched it “real time” and it was SO not as exciting. We will be totally waiting for it to come out on DVD so we can skip sleeping and eating and socializing and watch it all at once!

This is why I had to give up on “Lost”. I just couldn’t hack the idea that any answers I got would just further confuse the ultimate answer. I would need to know what was happening immediately so I could see it coming.
I also used to read the end of Nancy Drew books before I’d finished them so I could find out who the criminal was. I realised pretty soon that really DID take the fun out of everything though…

Oh man, I’m like the complete opposite – I don’t ever want things to end. I hate endings. It’s the worst part for me to write, too.
But with Twilight – man I couldn’t wait for THAT to end.
I have so many books to read…but the True Blood series is def on there!

Come down to StL anytime. You can steal my HBO and watch the show “On Demand,” meaning no more downloading.
TV shows that I love: Moonlight (only one season, but vampire-y and good); Sons of Anarchy (season two starts in a month on FX); Rescue Me; Lie to Me.
You said that you need more Eric… does that mean that Eric is the guy that we should be swooning over instead of Bill? I’m so curious =)
(I also have an addictive personality. Example: I watched Season 1, 2 and 3 of Weeds in less than a week. I’d be done with Season 4 if my social life hadn’t suddenly exploded.)

That’s totally how I felt about those books. I love them. I even got my mom hooked on them! True Blood the series is a bit of a let down, I’ve got to admit. The books are much much better. Good luck with finding your next obsession. If you love vampire books, I could suggest a couple series!

I’m on season 4. It’s awesome.

I completely know how you feel about those books! I’ve been addicted since LAST FALL, and they cannot come out fast enough. I had a DREAM about Eric last night, which pretty much proves that either (a) I’m deranged, (b) I just really, really like those books or (c) the new one needs to come out immediately. Or I should just find a new book series to be addicted to…

I’m so like that, too! This summer I watched 5 seasons of 24 in about 6 weeks. That’s a lot of our-world-is-going-to-end-in-2-hours! I don’t dare watch the last season, because then I’ll want to watch the new season as it comes out one episode at a time…that’s too much waiting!

I wish I was like that, as odd as it sounds. I always want to know, but that desire unfortunately isn’t enough to keep me motivated sometimes. I’d rather fly through things in no time just to find out the end than let it linger as I typically do.

This post was me in a nutshell. I watched the season 1 DVDs of True Blood during a 4 day break from work and now I’m distraught that season 2 is not on DVD yet. Who cares that they haven’t all aired; I want them now!
As for How I Met Your Mother, great show! I also highly recommend Weeds and Eureka.
