(can someone buy me these bookshelves?)
I think it’s time for another installment about my bookish whims. I’ve been a little bit busier since my last post about books so I haven’t read quite as much as I would like.
First off, I returned the second and third Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum books without reading them. I got a couple chapters through book two but I just wasn’t feeling it. At least I gave them a shot.
Same goes for the Heather Wells series by Meg Cabot. I knocked out the first one but was very unsure why a book about a fallen broke pop star turned dorm RA turned mystery solver was called Size 12 is Not Fat. So off the other two went unread back to the library.
Of course, with Harry Potter coming out there was definitely some Harry Potter in the past few weeks. This time it was the Deathly Hallows.
Then I felt I needed something light with no murdering Potions professors and pining girls who are always in love with the wrong guy. So I went with a YA book of mine by Noel Streatfeild. Ballet Shoes is a favorite from when I was younger but I couldn’t find it so I went with the follow up, Theater Shoes.
And what do you pick up after a YA book about dancing and theater?
Obviously, vampires.
In the past three days, I’ve knocked out the first three Sookie Stackhouse books: Dead Until Dark, Living Dead in Dallas and Club Dead. I suspect I’ll be done with the next by tomorrow. These are a little more grown up than Twilight. Sex, murder and synthetic blood. Definitely no “vegetarian” vampires here.
I’ve got some Jane Green novels on deck after I wrap this one up. I don’t think I’ll get my hands on the rest of the Stackhouse novels for a bit because of stupid waiting lists at the library.
As always, I’d love your thoughts if you’ve read any of these books and recommendations are always welcome! So what are you reading right now?

A couple good vampire series are the “Dead and” series – i can’t think of the author, but one of the later books is dead and unwed. Another is the “dead end dating” series. Both are kinda chicklit romancy, but good for a light read.

Wait, is Ballet Shoes also a movie with Emma Watson? Connection to HP, FTW! Also, I am reading some really gross Chuck Palahniuk, Wheel of Time (but you’re probably not into thousands of pages and huge commitment), Artemis Fowl and just finished the Gossip Girl series.

I’m reading Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult and Rattled! by Christine Coppa. The latter is a memoir of a young girl who found herself pregnant and pretty much broke and alone at 26. Basically my worst fear! Both are really good…but then again, literally ANYTHING Jodi Picoult writes is golden.

That bookshelf is adorable! I need it too! I am in the midst of a big project for my last class, so I am not reading anything super fun at the moment…but in three weeks, this Master’s degree will be done and I will be reading again! Hooray!

I hated Size 12 is Not Fat, it was just awful and I haven’t bothered with any of the others. But I do love the Plum books, they’re such good fun.
I’m about to pick up the next Sookie Stackhouse book from the library. Can’t wait. They’re such quick reads and really good.

Ummm I just started reading the first Harry Potter. I never had time in the past to sit down and read them, so I’m a little late to the game.
Sloane Crosley’s “I Was Told There’d Be Cake” is a good read if you want something light and funny.

I read Jane Green’s book “Bookends” and thought it was…cute. Nothing too monumental, though. I was just sent the new Jennifer Weiner book, “Best Friends,” and am excited to check it out. The two are similar authors, in my opinion.
And, man, I love Harry Potter. Just sayin’.

Love Sookie Stackhouse. She is such an interesting character. The series gets better as the books progress, though the blood lust and sex scenes border on soft porn at times. and I couldn’t get into Stephanie Plum at all either!

First of all, I never got the Stephanie Plum series either. I lost interest a little into book one.
Secondly “Ballet Shoes” is one of my favourite books ever from my childhood. I loved it so much.
And thirdly, like I’ve said before, I am chick-lit all the way. I’d always recommend Marian Keyes, Lisa Jewell and Megan Crane.

Yes! Love, love, love the Sookie books. I’m finding myself referring back to the 2nd one for references in the show… Are you watching the show? If not, you need to. It’s not following the book (a bit, but not entirely), but it’s awesome! Beware, the 9th book isn’t that great… at least in my humble opinion!

I’m glad you finally got the first Sookie Stackhouse books from the library! Still in awe of your restraint! I am just finishing Pretty in Plaid, the last Jen Lancaster. It’s good, but Such a Pretty Fat has been my fave of hers. Knowing our shared love of dogs, Lost and Found by Jacqueline Sheehand and The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein are both great books with dogs as central characters.

We are reading the EXACT same books right now…. I have all the Sookie Stackhouse books checked out from the library (they came off hold at the same time… eeek!) so I just finished the third one and am reading the new Jane Green novel too (because it’s also from the library and due in a day!) and then it’s off to finish the Sookie series… they are so good!
Can’t wait to hear what you think! I’m also watching the first season of True Blood as I go. No, I don’t sleep. LOL!

Eeeep! That bookshelf is to die for! Totally want it.
Also, I just finished Dead Until Dark today – one of my besties is getting me into the series. I totally didn’t expect all the racy parts – it’s like all I wanted from Twilight that I didn’t get. (JUST KIDDING! Except not really.)

Right now I am finishing up ‘The Gift of Fear’ by Gavin De Becker.
Next on my list is ‘Julie & Julia’ by Julie Powell. Based on the movie Julie & Julia. Gotta read it before I see the moving!!!
