I have a confession to make.
I forgot to return something to the library and racked up some fines. I did this like two years ago and sort of forgot about it. Yeah, I’m that person who takes things out and forgets about them and ruins shit for everyone.
What can I say? I’m a bookstore girl. I like the newness. No creases the spine. Pages sticking together because no one has turned them yet. The bookish smell. I’m a big fan of books on my bookshelf that I can keep and not have to give back.
I’m stingy like that.
But I’ve think I have learned my lesson. Now that I’m a broke ass, I can’t feed my book buying addiction. I’ll be hitting up the library and checking out (AND RETURNING!) books like normal human beings. Maybe even movies! Did you know the library has movies? I always assumed they only had older movies and not current ones. Why? I don’t know but I did.
(You can stop laughing now)
Anyway, I made a last minute trip to the library to bribe them pay them off so I can get my book borrowing privileges back. The thing is, I wasn’t prepared. There are always tons of books I want but if I don’t have a list with me, my mind goes blank. Because I can’t think of anything off the top of my head, I turn to Twitter.

Twitter to the rescue. Barely a minute passes and I see these start pouring in my reply page. There were more but my screen cap could only be so big.

This right here is exactly why I love Twitter.
I love the real time aspect of it. I post a question and seconds later, I have responses. Should I have posted about it on here, I would have to wait until the post hit the feed readers before I would get responses. Instead, 20 minutes later after browsing the shelves now knowing what I was looking for, I walked out with four books by authors that were suggested.
Twitter: it’s like magic.
(Twitter HQ, I get credit if you copyright that tag line. Share some of the millions love.)
Now, I need two things from you all: 1) follow me on Twitter – @jamielovely and 2) leave some book suggestions in the comments.

Twitter helped me fix my car, fix my dog, fix my house, and generally fix my life. It’s like 800 experts sitting in my backpocket. You know, without being weird.

I am SO a bookstore girl. Library books frequently come with weirdo stains on them and the pages stick together because there is something holding them together – gross. But, also being broke, I am trying to force myself to use the library.

I totally feel you about being a bookstore girl. I know I should use the library, but I just can’t bring myself to when my husband manages a bookstore. Plus, there is the nice discount we get.
What books did you end up checking out?

I absolutely love the library, but I’m biased because my mom is a librarian.
I’m reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for our book club. It’s long, but getting really interesting.
Also like The Time Traveler’s Wife

Books are my main indulgence. I used to be a big library goer but now i get my books from amazon marketplace 95 % of the time.
I’m a chick lit fan all the way so can’t offer any highbrow suggestions – Marian Keyes is my favourite author, but she is absolutely hilarious!

p.s. I have $133 in fines at one of our local libraries so yeah, I can’t go back there.

I’m the same way with books, I love owning them. I walk home from work every day and Strand Bookstore has a little outdoor shop set along central park. Its horribly addictive.
I’m trying to do the library thing now too, I’m actually just about to go now! I recommend: The Inheritance of Loss, Wolf at the Table, Life of Pi, and Home by Julie Andrews

I had more than $100 in fines for failing to return several items to the library when I did my big research project as a senior in high school. Oops?
There are three books by Tawni O’Dell, and they are all great. But if you pick just one, go with Back Roads. It’s amazing and was an Oprah’s book club pic several years ago.

Devil in the White City by Erik Larson (because, you live in Chicago making it even more interesting – I wanted to go there so badly while reading to check out all the places it talks about!!)
Like many above have said, Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (because it’s the most genuine book about love I’ve ever read…)
and for some of my personal all-time favourites -
One Hundred Years of Solitude – Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The Road – Cormac McCarthy
Still Life with Woodpecker – Tom Robbins

I steal books from the library too! I did it two years ago and I finally got a collection thing in the mail from them. So I got to keep the books and I have no learned my lesson. I’ve started getting magazines, DVD, and books out at the library. It’s so much better than buying! Anyway…Favorite books I’ve read/stolen:
The Teahouse Fire by Ellis Avery -a fiction about a girl who somehow finds herself in Japan way back in the day when ceremonial teas were still taken seriously.
Disobedience by Naomi Alderman – about a woman who has left her Orthodox Jewish upbringing in England to live in New York but must now go back and face it again. Very interesting and entertaining.
A Brief Chapter in My Impossible Life – just reviewed it on luxuryreading.com. Should be up soon or you can read my review on amazon.com.

Twitter really is like magic. Now, the question is: Which book did you end up checking out?
I’m jealous that you have a library card. I went to the one local library, and since I don’t live in the city limits, I’d have to pay, like, $75 to get a card. I forewent that, obviously, even though it is probably cheaper than me buying books all the time.
