While watching So You Think You Can Dance? I managed to catch a commercial for this new show Fox is coming out with called More to Love. Maybe others have heard about it before but it’s news to me.
FOX is setting out to prove that love comes in all shapes and sizes with the new inspirational dating competition series MORE TO LOVE. Executive-produced by Mike Fleiss (“The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette”), the unscripted series follows a single average guy with a big waist and an even bigger heart as he romances several confident and secure plus-size women. Each week, the husky hunk will wine and dine a group of curvy women to determine if they have more love to give or if they are truly more than he can handle. When the size of competition narrows, he will have to decide if one full-figured lady will become his true love.
“This is a dating show that sends the right message about embracing and loving yourself no matter your shape or size,” said executive producer Mike Fleiss. “When you are comfortable with your own body, you can really allow yourself to be open to the possibility of finding the right person to love.”
Hold the fuck up.
So if the only size that matter’s is the “size of your heart” then why do you have to have a separate dating show for us “average” folk? Curvy girls aren’t allowed to date The Bachelor now or even men that are thinner than them? They have to date the “single average guy with a big waist”? Is it because Fat People need to stick together? If you’re that “comfortable with your own body” then why limit yourself to who you can date by their weight? Maybe cast some real women on your other reality dating shows besides size two women because all of America doesn’t have plastic boobs and tiny waists.
This is officially the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard in my life.
Thoughts?

I pretty much don’t watch anything that comes on Fox except Bones.
And now this? Please. They are just insulting us.

Whr are a lot of people out there so obsessed with classifying people by their weight? fat people, thin people, are people. Instead of making shows like this, bring more realistic looking ladies to The Bachelor.

That makes me want to cuss, too.
Hopefully, it will never, ever air. How ridiculous.
And I bet they get some big make over, too. Slimming clothes.
Or they get a personal trainer for the dude.
Or there is a twist and the guy can choose a thin lady.
Geez.

I try to avoid all “reality” tv myself but this just reminds me of a running joke on The Simpsons where a promo for an outrageously stupid show will come on the air and at the end they always say “FROM FOX” lol

What the Fuck. (sorry… this is worthy of cursing at such an early hour).
This is exactly what is wrong with society and why I am convinced I’m fat, even when I’m totally not!
I say we organize a blogger boycott.

You said it all. If they actually wanted to send the message that all bodies are beautiful, they could pick a few different body types for their regular shows instead of creating a whole “look at the fatties, watch them mate!” show to make sure we keep those freakish larger people separate from the rest of us. Kate Harding would have so much to say about othering in regards to this show. ARGH.

I don’t do reality tv shows anymore because they always piss me off.
They definitely shouldn’t call it More to Love.
What do you want to be that the “Bachelor” on More to Love is asked to be on Biggest Loser or something after his stint on this show since America is apparently so shallow?
This makes me mad, too.

I pretty much had the exact same thoughts when I saw the preview for that. If I didn’t love SYTYCD so much, I’d get cable to just delete Fox off of my TV.

You make a valid point. In trying to prove that we’re all the same, shows like this just screw things up further. What do you want to bet that some teenage girl says “No, I want to be on the Bachelor! I CAN’T be on More to Love! I must lose 10 pounds!”

So disgusting, and completely degrading. Sure, they’re putting “real” people on TV in search of love, but they’re clumping them together. And then using adjectives like “husky” and “curvy” as descriptors, which have nothing to do with their “big hearts”? Ridiculous. I certainly won’t watch this.

I saw the commercial last night as well, and I couldn’t believe it. It’s so stupid.
By creating this show, they’re trying to trick the average person into thinking they’re being represented and acknowledged. In reality, they’re being segregated and identified as a separate group of PEOPLE. Like someone else said here, people are people.
What’s silly is that this also just highlights even more the inequality of the types of people on the original shows. To be honest, I never really thought much about the body types of the typical contestant on those shows (and that could just be me), but now I’m very aware of it.

My sister auditioned for this show!!! My cousin dragged her to it, it wasn’t really her idea. They actually called her back asking for a taped interview. She declined. How crazy is that?

Wow, I can’t believe they are doing this kind of show. Um, let’s try to un-segregate people by putting them on DIFFERENT shows! Brilliant.

I saw the commercial tonight too. I can understand where you’re coming from. I honestly think this show should be under MTV because it looks lame and way too dramatic for Fox.

When I saw this commercial, I didn’t know which was more offensive: the fact that they have a show like this at all, or the fact that they kept showing the characters talk about how they couldn’t find real love at their weight. I’m single and overweight, but I don’t think the two are related! The kind of guy that wouldn’t like me because of my weight is the kind of guy I wouldn’t want!

Whatever they call the show…but don’t call those women “real women” just because they are large.
There is plenty of women that are naturally skinny, and as real as it gets! All of us are real…large or small!
Personally I would like to see those reality shows to have combination of both in one show, and don’t divide us into camps.

I wonder if the people who are complaining about segregating fat and skinny folks have a problem with Harlem Heights? Maybe the people of one group not typically seen on reality TV (fat, or black in these examples) just like dating people who look similar to themselves.
Also, to the person who said Luke isn’t even hot, isn’t that the point?? That this show is for “real people” and real people aren’t all beautiful and thin, as we’ve been led to believe by The Bachelor/ette shows? He’s a normal looking, “average” guy.
