I’m going to stick with yesterday’s theme what you would do with ridiculous amounts of money.
Kinda.
I always say that if I get rich, one of the things I’m going to do is buy a ton of land and build a puppy farm. No, not like a creepy puppy mill. It will basically be a dog sanctuary for homeless puppies who haven’t found their families just yet. They won’t be locked up in tiny cages, will still be safe and fed and will get tons of love. Countless foofoo dog toys and peanut butter bones to cater to their every puppy whim.
And even though I’m not a big fan of cats, there will be a kitty barn too because well, I just can’t leave them out.
That would be my giving back because everyone knows what a sucker I am for dogs. Yes, the Sarah McLaughlin commercials make me cry and I’m not ashamed to admit that I have teared up at the Pedigree Dogs Rule commercials too. I’m sure that’s no surprise to anyone here though.
Mark my words, when I figure out what I’m doing with my life and it makes me millions, there will be a puppy farm.
Your turn now.
You were just given a million dollars but had to give it away to a cause of your choice, what would it be?
(It can be an existing cause or one you want to start)

Oh those Sarah McLauchlin commercials get me every time.
It would be between kids, animals and cancer. Maybe there’s a charity that helps all 3?

I would love to set up a college scholarship fund and be able to help out students who are working their way through college. I held a job throughout college and wasn’t able to get any state money because my parents make too much money for me to qualify, so it would be my ultimate vindication to help out others in the same situation. I hate that they ask how much your parents make even though they aren’t paying for your college!
Also, I would set up a fund to help responsible pet owners pay for emergency visits. I see so many pet owners having to make tough decisions for their pet’s health due to money problems. So sad!

That’s awesome. If I win a million I’m going to fund your farm and I’ll be in charge of the kitty barn

I’d help the animals too. A kitty and puppy haven, helping the old mistreated horses, saving the whales. All of it. Well, not snakes. Snakes are yucky.

No question, I would open a rescue horse farm. There are so many good old horses that have their lives ended in horrifying ways because people don’t want to care for them – I don’t understand it, people keep old dogs, but very few keep old horses.
I would nurse them back to health & feed them lots of apples – and I would have a dog rescue/spay & neuter clinic too. So our shelters could tie in together lol

So funny that you want to do that as that is exactly what I told EP, Lys, BelleRenee & Phil on Sunday over our greasy hangover food! I have such a soft spot for dogs that I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a no-kill shelter. People can come adopt the pups and if they don’t? I’ll keep them all =)
Other than that, if I had a million, I’d probably travel to Italy for six months. Never been and can’t wait to go.

It’s hard for me to decide, but I’d go with the following:
1. Donating to the local chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America. That’s always been a charity I’ve volunteered with, but I know the funding lacks in some areas.
2. Starting a Study/Volunteer Abroad Scholarship Fund based on what Andrea wanted to do for college. I think studying and volunteering abroad during college is incredibly important, but a lot of people can’t afford to do it after paying college tuition.

I’d build libraries. There are soooo many places where they just don’t have libraries and this makes me so sad. I’ve done a good bit of research about this and there are some orgs that help build them. I’m getting involved with two DC groups that do this and am so excited about it!

Whoa, I was just thinking about this the other day! I’m a sap for the Sarah McLaughlin commercials (the dog with one eye! GAH!!), so I would probably give money to a local shelter in my area and make sure the animals were well cared for while they were staying in the shelter. I would also throw some cash to the KathrynwithaY’s College Debt fund because I’m gonna pay off my student loans forever at this point.

I’m on board with the animal sanctuary farm. We could put our millions together, and also put an orphanage on the puppy farm.

My first choice would be to donate it to FirstBook.org (a national organization dedicated to providing kids with books and helping them to learn to read)
OR my second option would be to set up my own nonprofit similar to FirstBook and it would benefit kids here in NC.

Even in a time of great economic turmoil where I’m sure lots of practical organizations could use the money, I’ve found that being a musician is my secret to staying happy. As such, if I were to donate that much money to charity, I’d go with the Save The Music Foundation.
Because everyone should know the happiness of being a musician.

Half of it would go to breast cancer research. 3 women on my husband’s side have been diagnosed within the past few years. The other half would go to the support of arts education. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for arts in the schools and through outside free programs when I was a kid.

I’ve always said my dream job would be to give grants to small non-profits.
If I had a million, I would give some to some hogars in Guatemala and the rest to small non profits providing actual services to people in need (domestic violence shelters, food banks, camp for kids, etc).

That’s such a wonderful idea. With my million dollars, I would donate a chunk to you so you could have your puppy farm. Then, I would buy a cottage outside of Glasgow for my parents and spend the rest on food. I like food.

So strange! One of my friends and I were talking about something like this a few days ago, and she mentioned that she wants to start a thing like this. Actually, TWO of my friends want to do something like this. Weird.
I’d definitely contribute to some worthy causes — lots of the money would go to animals. That Sarah MacLaughlin commercial makes me cry, too. Glad I’m not the only one.
