calm my puppy mama nerves

Today my Edie is going to have surgery. I put off her spaying for way too long because I was nervous. I know that’s a silly reason to not do it when she turned 6 months but it’s true.

After losing Princess last summer, I’ve become terrified of something happening to Edie. I worry she will manage to slip out the front door or someone will leave the gate open and she will run away. Every time she doesn’t seem to be feeling well, I get anxious. I know Edie at a year and a half is a much different case health-wise than Princess at 13 years but I can’t help it.

I just can’t bear the thought of losing another of my puppies.

So needless to say putting my puppy under anesthesia and having them remove her uterus is freaking me out. I do know it’s better in the long run for her to get spayed. She won’t have the problems Princess did last year because she was never spayed (she got an awful horrible infection that almost killed her but in the end she died of old age).

I know she will be in good hands and I’ll get to pick her up later today but what can I say?

I’m a nervous puppy mama.

Send some good vibes Edie’s way and hope her surgery goes smoothly?

Awww I know the feeling. But she’ll be just fine! And you’ll get to baby her when she’s back at home :-)

Good vibes coming your way.

I was so nervous when Rufus was neutered! I will be thinking lots of good thoughts for you and Edie today. :)

Good luck — to the both of you:) It is scary – but it’s such a routine surgery so it always goes well. I think the hardest part is after because they get their energy back within a day but have to take it easy because of the stiches!

Lots of love to Miss Edie!

I just got my kitty Pepper fixed, and I was worried about it allll day. I kept worrying that my phone was going to ring and they were going to tell me something went horribly wrong in the surgery.

They never told me not to feed her anything the night before, so in true LRC fashion I forgot. I remembered the next morning, when I saw her crunching away at her food bowl. I called the vet’s office: “I can’t bring in Pepper today SHE WAS EATING THIS MORNING” and they were all “She’ll be fine, we’ll just be sure to keep a close eye on her” and I was all “NO YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND, SHE WAS EATING! I DON’T WANT HER ASPIRATING ON THE OPERATING TABLE! WE HAVE TO RESCHEDULE!” but eventually they convinced me it was okay and she turned out just fine. She’s so cute with her little shaved belly :)

Absolutely sending good thoughts your way. I know that feeling all too well. I panic at the least little thing when it comes to my dogs. But it’s such an easy surgery and before you know it, you’ll have a doped up dog who’s happy to see you and just wants to cuddle.

Hope everything went well for your pupper yesterday! It’s a scary time for sure, but in the end she’ll be much happier not having to deal with going into heat, etc. I’m sure you’re a great puppy mama and you do your research to find the best people to take care of your baby.

Hope everything went really well and that you’re tending to her, it’s big surgery and deserves big cuddles when she’s feeling up to it!

Sending lots of good thoughts your way. I worry about Sandy too when I think shes not feeling up to par.

I’ll definitely keep you and Edie in my thoughts today! When I moved, I had to leave my pup back in Florida and I worry about him all the time, so I know the feeling! I’m sure everything went well! :)

Your puppy is already in my thoughts, hoping everything works out well and she heals quickly.

Reading this, it looks like your Princess and my Licorice who just died were about the same age just as our puppies – Edie and Sophie – are. Strange.

Everything will be fine. Treat yourself to something yummy to calm your nerves a bit…

When we took my puppy to be neutered, I worried all day. When I went to pick him up, they warned me: “He may walk gingerly for a few days, and he may not want to eat.” Well. They brought him out and he was as chipper as if I’d sent him to the park for the day. When we got home, he ate a full dinner, then hopped up onto the bed to relax.

No worries. She’ll be fine.

Aww, Jamie, I know COMPLETELY how you feel. I do the same thing with Lucy (and since she’s had so many tummy problems, I get anxious whenever she acts a little funny.) It’s so nerve-wracking when you’re waiting on something like this. But Edie WILL be fine, and you will get to take care of her and love on her so much later today.

Sending lots of good vibes your way! My 11-year-old puppy just had surgery to have a tumor removed. She survived and is happy as ever. I’m sure your puppy will be just fine. : )

Good thoughts for your baby! Puppy surgery is scary, but they do so many of these things, I’m sure she’ll be fine! She might act pretty funny from the anesthesia for a little bit, though.

Awww, good luck puppy! I’m sure he’ll be fine. :)

You are doing a world of good by spaying your pup. Edie will be fine. Plus, her drug-induced drowsiness will give you even more reason to dote on her this afternoon. Good vibes, girl, good vibes.

I know how you feel, and I know that it can be extremely nerve wracking to have your puppy in the vet. I hope everything goes well, and that you’ll have her back shortly! And just think, now you don’t have to worry about some dog taking poor Edie’s lady-ness ;)

Pets are seriously like our children at times. Last month I flipped when I thought something was wrong with my dog. I’ll be thinking of you today :-)

fingers crossed for edie! hope everything goes loverly!

I hope everything went well and Edie is doing good! I’m sure she’s real sleepy but they are extra cute that way, right? just give her lots of love and attention (and maybe a new toy!) and she will be just dandy. and you will too! it is so much better to get them spayed. my vet told me it dramatically reduces their risk of getting breast cancer, so just know you did the right thing and the best thing for your adorable pup!

Ahh!I hope she is ok.I had my kitten Maya, spayed about 2 months back, when she was about 6 months old,and even though I know it’s for the best, and is for her own benefit,it broke my heart to see her all shaven and medicated afterwards. But she’s all good now,and I’m glad I had it done so quickly.

Your doggie is beautiful!

Oh my gosh, I remember feeling so sad when I got Bandit neutered. I know it’s way more complicated for girl dogs…but it was still so stressful. I took him to the vet, and they put him on a leash and were leading him into another room. I was walking toward the exit and he was whimpering and trying to come after me but they were pulling him the other way with the leash. I cried the whole way to work. Sigh. Puppies.
