make up help!

This time it’s not for me. We all know how much I fail when it comes to make up. But yes, make up help!

As some of you know, my sister is going to school for special effects make up. Not only does she get to do fun stuff like make blood, learn how people are shot in the head in movies and make human hearts out of candy but she is learning about regular make up.

Monday she is going on a field trip to Sephora.

I know right? Field trip to SEPHORA.

Lucky bitch.

But the point of the field trip is to build up her makeup kit. So she needs some recommendations and you guys have never failed me before!

What are you favorite make up products?

ETA: Specifics from the sister: I need eye shadows and blushes. Eyeliners. Lipstuff. Brushes and other applicators

This sounds totally ridiculous, but my favorite blush of all time is Nars’ Orgasm. It’s the best!

Ooh! Are there any specific things needed? Is she starting completely from scratch or is she filling gaps in an existing kit? Is it for a work kit or a personal kit? Sephora does carry Make-Up Forever, which is pro-quality stuff (but I’m sure she’s got her own stuff). Most of my recommendations would be more personal-kit type stuff, so basically, more details, please!

i love MAC. their powder and eye shadows.

i only have MAC products because my friend works for estee lauder and gets it free. usually i dont wear make up or use cheap mascara and such from like CVS or Rite aid.

Ugh, I hate makeup…I love wearing it, but I’m pretty sure I am terrible at applying it.

For the everyday look, I’m a HUGE fan of mineral makeup (like Pur Minerals or BareMinerals). For the funky stuff, Urban Decay STILL makes me happy.

[Reply]

Bare Minerals is great. (But can cause mega itchiness.)

I also like Smashbox primer.

Aaand I can’t afford anything else at Sephora. Ha.

Hi. I love you for asking this. My favorites? Philosophy lip gloss, fresh skin products, Bare Minerals foundation, Sephora brand bronzer (or Benefit), Vincent Longo eyeshadow … but for mascara? It HAS to be Voluminous by Loreal. I’ve tried all the other ones (including the ridiculously expensive Dior stuff) and nothing works as well.

I <3 Mac…even though it’s HELLUH expensive!!

[Reply]

I’ve just started replacing my make-up with eco-friendly products like from Burt’s Bees and Eco Bella. However, before then I was a MAC girl.

[Reply]

I’m surprised no one mentioned Stila — my absolute favorite. They make awesome eyeshadows, liners, lipstick, etc. etc. Yes, expensive. But a beautiful line.

[Reply]

Wow, that’s a great field trip.

Black mineral powdered eyeliner is my new favorite thing. So easy to apply!

benefit creaseless cream shadow and benetint, stila shadows.

i also love mac paint shadows, not from sephora, but i’ve been wearing them every day for years. they are great for layering.

i’m all about mac, especially for foundation. my parents decided to bless me with the ’sensitive skin’ gene, so mac is totally worth the price paid for me.

i always wind up with a ton of clinque stuff as well, because my mom is all about their perfume, and gets those little “oooh goodie bags of extras” whenever she shops there, and then i steal them when she’s not looking. (kidding. she gives them to me.. usually.)

I have used Bare Escentuals foundation for a really long time. I tried a few other things because I got tired of it being messy. but everything else I haved tried did not work for me at all. So I am back to BE as of a few months ago :) I like their eyeshadows as well. I like Stila products too!

[Reply]

I’m not really big on make-up but I do LOVE Philosophy lip gloss! Also like Clinic make-up products. Easy on my skin and don’t irritate it.

Lip venom! Dior Mascara! Sephora Blush!

sigh… I <3 sephora. I’m jealous :-(

L’Oreal here. I can’t go without lipstick, mascara and eyeliner.

The Sephora mini eyelash curler is, by far, my best pick from there. Not the metal-scissor-contraption-type, but the short-mini-plastic-squeeze-type. AMAZING curl.

Okay, thought about this more: Urban Decay Primer Potion keeps eyeshadow on all day. Urban Decay shadows are also awesome (as are the 24/7 eyeliners). Agreed on Benetint and the Benefit creaseless eyeshadows (Skinny Jeans is great). I just bought Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer with SPF (DuWop and Benefit also make good ones). I’ve also been using Dior SkinFlash, which is a concealer/highlighter clicky-pen along the lines of YSL’s Touche Eclat (which Sephora also has now) — I wear it under my eyes and I look less tired. Nars blushes and shadows are good, as are Tarte’s cheekstains (very portable). My favorite lip gloss is Fresh’s Sugar Flirt, which is a sheer raspberry gloss that smells like lemon drops; DuWop lip gloss is good too, whether it’s the clear Lip Venom or the tinted Venom Glosses.

As far as favorite make-up products, I LOVE rimmel’s stuff because it’s not too expensive and it comes in like a million colors. I usually get it at Target and I’m pretty sure they don’t carry it at Sephora.

I love MAC and Benefit more than life.

I love love love O-Gloss from Smashbox… it is a nice gloss, not sticky at all, and gives your lips a nice natural clear pinkish shine. (It supposedly looks different on everyone since it interacts with your body chemistry in some way.)

Also: Stila illuminating tinted moisturizer is a good alternative to foundation, and I adore Lancome’s Virtuose mascara in black. On days when I have to rush out the door, I use the moisturizer, a sheer untinted powder, a bit of blush, the mascara, and the gloss and look quite fine and casual.

Have fun!

I love makeup. Especially putting it on other people. Anything Vincent Longo is AMAAAZING, especially the foundation! Liquid Canvas Dew Finish is a must have. The best foundation I have ever tried. They have great eyeshadows too. I also love L’Oreal’s liquid felt tip eyeliner pens. And Lancome Definicils waterproof black mascara. I have yet to find a lip gloss I truly love.

In response to your post on my blog, I will be at the Chicago blogger meet-up so long as it’s not decided it will be on my birthday (Nov 22!)

Oh what a fun field trip! I also use Bare Minerals…foundation, blush, bronzer, shimmer, etc. I like Bobbi Brown eye shadows, but I’m not sure if they sell them at Sephora. I hear MAC has amazing eye shadows, too and I think I need to try them one of these days. As far as eye liner, I switch off between Chanel and Clinique (I’m leaning toward Chanel right now).

I am ridiculously picky about my mascara. I am currently wild about Chanel Inimitable Mascara. But I have heard fantastic things about Dior Iconic (it made my sister’s eyelashes look amazing), so I’m going to give that a whirl soon.

Have fun!

Bare Minerals – love it.

I am so in love with my Dior mascara, I would make out with it. I’d even use tongue. It’s that serious between us.

Gosh I do love Sephora. My favorite make-up products are: Clinique City Block, Physicians Formula highlighter, mascara and Clinique foundation. Cannot live without it.

Sephora’s brand of eyeliners are great. They have some really neat sparkly ones.

I’m a Sephora freak! My faves are the Stila brushes #20 (eyeshadow) and #21 (flat mineral or powder brush, The Balm Plump Your Pucker lip gloss in Crush My Grapes, and the super essential Nars Orgasm blush.

[Reply]

I’m gonna go with Miss Priss but kick it up with the Laguna/Orgasm duo from Nars. That Peachy Pink looks good on EVERYONE. Other great things:
2) Smashbox Photofinish primer
3) Peter Thomas Roth Powder with SPF
4) Benefit Blush in Hula or Dallas
5) Nars lipstick in Tanamango or Viridiana
6) http://tokissthecook.blogspot.com/2007/11/maquillage.html
7) I don’t know that you can get it at Sephora, but the Kevyn Aucoin concealer is amazing. I’ve had it a year and haven’t so much as put a dent in it either!! 8) Laura Mercier Eye Shadow Primer
9) Lip Venom gloss in Venom
10 MAC Vive Glam V gloss and Frenzy lipstick
11) Benefit lip pencil in Posh or Brownie
12) Nars Brozer Brush

LOVE make-up…good for her!!

I love lip venom!

Benefit has some STELLAR eyeshadows in little pots that aren’t powder. they go on soooo smoothly and don’t crease. plus the benefit brush that you can buy to apply said eyeshadow is fabulous.

when it comes to mascara and pressed powder, i swear by YSL. I know it’s prettttty pricey, but sometimes splurging for the sake of quality is worth it. and these are totally worth it. i’ve tried lots of different powders, and YSL’s is so smooth and fresh and natural looking that its unbelievable. i was always a no makeup wearer until i found this stuff.

philosophy makes a lip exfoliator that comes in a lip gloss tube that is really great for revamping chapped lips, or just making them super smooth and soft.

I love NARS!!
