Project Runway finale thoughts

Last Wednesday was the finale of Project Runway. Two of my favorites from day one made it to Bryant Park: Leann and Korto. Kenley should have been gone awhile ago and not only because she was incredibly defensive and bitchy. If we played the Kenley drinking game this season we all would have been terribly wasted every Wednesday night. But her crappy attitude is besides the point!

Let’s talk Bryant Park – the line up was Kenly, Korto and rounding them up, Leann. Tim Gunn filled in as guest judge last minute for Jennifer Lopez, who pulled out because of a “foot injury” but still managed to compete in a triathalon two days later. Gunn makes it work far better than J-Lo anyway. Kenley realizes she probably should not have been such a raging bitch when she hears that news.

Kenley’s collection was fun. It was very Kenley. Her shapes and loud prints. She did have some major rip offs like this look from Balenciaga (photo from MyItThings) and her wedding dress looking a bit too similar to an Alexander McQueen. As a designer you should really pay attention to what else is going on in the fashion world. I mean, really! Major fashion designers would never be able to get away with “I don’t know” as a response to their piece looking like another designer’s! Either she is really clueless or knows exactly what they are talking about and straight up copied. I’m leaning toward the later. I find it hard to believe she just doesn’t know about what else other designers are doing. You can view all of Kenley’s collection here.

Everyone knows I have been pulling for Leanne since the beginning. I absolutely adored her collection. I loved it. From the choice of music down to the clothes. She has skirts, pants, dresses too so there was versatility. Her collection was structured yet fluid, literally had movement and very cohesive. I still cannot get over the wedding dress. I think it was amazing! All of Leanne’s collection can be be found here.

Korto’s collection was very solid. Vibrant bright colors and strong pieces. Some of them were a little too overworked though. She did have some really great looks though and for awhile I really thought it was a tossup between her and Leanne. You can check out Korto’s whole collection here.

In the end, Leanne came out victorious and rightly so!

Stay turned until tomorrow for a special, ultra exclusive Project Runway treat!

I really liked Leanne’s collection the most. I think it was the most detailed and crafted of the three. Kenley’s voice just kills my soul so I couldn’t be happy if she won, but her collection was like bad 80s too. The painted pieces were nice but some just had tacky add-ons that needed to go! I really loved Leanne’s blue dress at the end, stunning. I liked Koto’s collection too but it just didn’t match Leannes.

I loved the shapes and colors of LeAnn’s collection, but seriously? WAY too many pleats and petals.

She would be an amazing designer if she just steps out of using so many petally things, but based on the collections they presented, I would have picked Korto.

LeAnn’s collection was fresh and full of interesting and new ideas, though, so… I guess it wasn’t a bad choice. I just liked Korto’s collection right off the bat, and LeAnn’s has taken me a while to get used to.

I would have been happy with either Leanne or Korto winning, so I’m glad they both got the top prizes. adored all of Leanne’s looks (minus the disastrous gold dress in the second episode). I especially loved her dress from the New York inspiration episode. Her whole vibe is great, humble and friendly. I liked Korto’s dresses too, and they’re much more non-skinny-girl friendly (I couldn’t carry off Leanne’s petals, no matter how much I like them).

I didn’t watch the season, only the finale. I didn’t have personal feelings on the designers. I didn’t know their previous work.

But judging solely from their final collections, I’d have to say that LeAnn’s was the worst! All her looks were the same. And most of them looked awkward or made her models look lumpy or hippy.

I think Kenley’s was my favorite. I particularly liked that off-white dress with the flowers up it that you posted. The other of hers that you posted I found completely hideous and unwearable.

Korto’s collection had high points and low points. I think her final green dress was the best thing in anyone’s collection. Breath-taking.

I was rooting for Leanne from the beginning, mostly because we fellow Portlanders have to stick together. (And I LOVED Korto’s line. The colors were awesome.)

I thought they got it right. I liked more of Kenley’s than I thought I would and less of Korto’s than I thought I would. I didn’t love Leann’s but I liked it best.

I would have been fine with Leanne or Korto prior to the finale. After the finale, I was pretty much on team Leanne. Korto’s work was a little up and down in terms of execution for the finale(though I loved, loved, loved that green she used!).
Some of Kenley’s stuff looked cute, but as my husband said–couldn’t you just buy most of that at the store?I think several of her dresses were very wearable and cute, but not cutting edge.
In the end, I think it all came out for the best.

kenley is such a brat – seriously i can’t even watch her on the screen.

i’m so happy for leann though! she nailed it, but korto was a very close second.

the two looks you showed are my favorite looks from leanne’s collection. her wedding dress was stunning!

I also loved korto’s final green dress and all of her dresses from the season. Especially the look she created for the recently graduated, young professional women.

Kenley’s collection was VERY her and i liked that she was able bring forth that aspect of her personality (no matter how deeply hidden that part is) but there was nothing that really impressed me.

I would have bought Kenley’s stuff….if hadn’t been made by her.
“Whose that you are wearing?”
“Condescending!”

I don’t believe for a second that Kenley doesn’t know what other designers are up to. If you love fashion, you know what designers are doing. She’s so full of it…I wanted to smack her every time she opened her mouth.

I thought Leann’s collection was gorgeous. It was so innovative and so her. I’m glad she won.

I am just so happy that Leann won and that Kenley didn’t. If Kenley had won I might consider not watch Project Runway next season (if they can get through all that who owns the show now)

I loved Leeanne’s collection also, but they all looked the same.
I really expected Korto to win, her collection was diverse and the outfit she whipped up at the last minute was amazing.
And I liked Kenley’s stuff…just too bad she had a pissy attitude!

I watched the show on Tivo and I fast-forwarded through all of the Kenley drama. She makes me all twitchy. I almost feel bad for her, she seems like a profoundly unhappy person.

i don’t watch the show, but wow, what beautiful creations from leanne! loved it all too!

Seriously, what’s going on with that black skirt combination with the green blouse that was 95% COLLAR? Oh, Kenley. I like Leanne, and I find her clothes to be elegant and very wearable. She’s really got it down in that I can see people wearing her clothes. Personally, I lean more toward Korto’s style because I’m more drawn to vibrant color. It’s mostly just personal preference, and I’d say if ever there was a toss-up, Leanne and Korto were definitely the two to bring it down to. I think my favorite dress of all three collections is Korto’s full-length blue dress. It’s stunning!

Thanks for the recap! I don’t have a TV so I missed watching the end of this season (sad!), so this was my first chance to see the collections.

I loved Leanne’s collection! it was so fresh and modern! I did really like that green dress Korto made. I didn’t like Kenley’s collection at all. I felt like it had all been done before.

Haha, I loved how you included the Kenley drinking game!

My friend Claire and I were pulling for Leanne from the get-go, when they showed examples of the designers’ pre-existing collections. We were impressed and wanted to see more.

GO LEANIMAL!

Ahhh, I’m SO glad Leanne won! My mom actually called it the first week hehe! But really, if Kenley “Xerox” Collins had won, that would just have been it for me with that show! I know Nina, and she would NEVER stand for copy crap like that!! Especially from someone who claims Coco Chanel is one of her favorite designers….

I liked that Leanne’s was mostly organic and such. She thought about it. I really enjoyed her collection.Kenley was annoying but her collection was ok. I totally think she ripped off the designers. Korto’s collection was alright, I wasn’t that impressed. In fact, I thought most of the stuff she did while on the show was better (the seatbelt jacket!).

[Reply]

I liked Leann’s the best, too. And I would have worn a lot of the clothing in Korto’s collection, so that’s a plus. While some of Kenley’s was fun, I just didn’t like her attitude.

I’m really happy Leann won!
