autumn

Two days into October and it really feels like fall. It’s brisk out, the trees are starting to change colors and it just feels like fall. It’s my favorite season. I love fall clothing – boots, scarves, layers and all that. My favorite colors always seem to suit this time of year best – burgundys, wines, deep purples. My whole wardrobe is black, white and gray with a little bit of those colors thrown it.

My biggest gripe is that here in Chicago it doesn’t stick around for long enough! It feels like autumn only lasts a couple weeks before we plunge into negative temperatures. I’m not ready for winter. I hate it. It makes me want to hibernate for a few months, only leaving to grab some hot chocolate, a few books and cuddle up the boyfriend with some good movies.

Soon the leaves will go from yellow to orange to red and fall off the trees. Hayrides and pumpkin patching will be planned. Scary faces will be carved in pumpkins. Piles of leaves will be raked up only to be jumped around in. Costume plans and holiday shopping started. Then before we know it we’ll have the first snow.

Take your time, Fall.

Don’t rush.

I agree – NY has about a week or two of Fall, then boom! Snow.

i agree! don’t rush fall. i’m hoping we’ll have a good one in DC this year.

I LOVE fall and everything you just mentioned. Here in OH we do get to enjoy the autumn season.

Here in Utah, it’s been unseasonably warm. It’s going to be in the 80s today. Where is fall over here? I’m ready for the snow!

Love fall too! I just really wish they would make it warmer in our office already! It’s cold outside AND inside.

Fall is also my very favorite season. We don’t usually get a very consistent fall in Texas, but we sometimes have some very fall-like days by late November or December. I’d love to spend a few weeks somewhere it actually gets crisp and brisk.

I love fall too and it does seem to be very short even here in Seattle where it never gets too cold, but it’s just not the same once the leaves fall.

i was all ‘oooo ahhhh’ on the way to work today in my new plaid coat, boots, and the leaves falling across my car. love it!

I hope it lasts a long time too… at least until december. I’m not ready for winter.

Agreed. I <3 Autumn! :-)

Fall is my favorite too! You have me all excited now! We’re lucky in Virginia…we don’t really hit “winter” until mid-December. We get two and a half months of wonderful fall weather. I really need to go shopping!

I love everything about autumn!

Your picture of leaves looks just like the desktop background I have on my home computer! I love fall too! And i also like burgundys, wines and rich colors. This is definitely the best time of year for wearing them!

It’s the opposite here in SC. Well, the Lowcountry part of SC. We basically get summer weather until the last week of November and then a week or two of Fall, and then Winter come late December. Today it’s 77 degrees and this weekend and next week back up to the 80s. Last year we got 80 degree temps well into Nov.

I love Fall and wish we had more of one.

I WISH Florida had more of a Fall. I love it, it’s by far my favorite season.

We’re easing into fall really nicely here, thank goodness, because it gets to be literally -50 C.

In terms of things I’m not looking forward to, that pretty much sums them all up.

i agree…..if only winter and fall could switch places. i would rather have the nice fall weather for months, and the cold, cold temps for just mere weeks.

even though i’ve lived in chicago my entire life, i am constantly asked “are you from around here?” because i complain so much about the cold!

I love fall too – and while it is beautiful here in New England, it has been rainy for over a week now, which is really cutting into what is supposed to be my favorite weather.

[Reply]

Sigh. In Southern California we don’t really get autumn at all. It was almost 100 degrees yesterday. No Joke.

[Reply]

You could spend “winters” here in AZ. It’s never really cold enough to be considered winter, so we have this 2 month period of Fall before Effing Hot Summer sets back in.

[Reply]

The only reason I can tolerate winter is because autumn comes before it. I don’t know if I could live without it.

GAH! I loved this post! Fall is my fav season and time of year. I agree- why must it be so damn short?!

[Reply]

There’s actually fall-like weather in Florida in September this year. I cannot even BEGIN to contain my joy.

[Reply]

Sadly, I live in LA, and have never experienced a real fall. Too bad, since I love boot and scarf weather.

[Reply]

i agree! i hope it stays longer than it seems to every year!
it’s my FAVORITE time of year!

[Reply]

I miss fall in New England…DC just doesn’t compare!

What is funny is that there is a heat wave out west while the east is feeling the fall. I love fall!

[Reply]

I adore fall. I’m so excited for fall clothes and food!

[Reply]

I love Fall too! My favorite day is a nice cool, crisp day to bake bread because I’m mad domestic like that!

[Reply]

I’m enjoying our short fall as well. I’ve already had my fair share of hot chocolate. I use it quite frequently when it’s dead winter to keep warm – that and hot baths, haha. I just need to get some marshmallow fluf for in my hot chocolate and i’m set!

[Reply]

pretty picture! I sorta love fall, more than summer. If I could, i’d live with fall forever.

[Reply]

I love fall for all the same reasons! Except it doesn’t appear like we’re going to get much of one in South Mississippi.

I hope fall sticks around for y’all.
