Yeah, you read that right.
I’m taking a math class this semester and my instructor is insane. She can’t ever remember what she just finished saying. We got handed a stack of paper, half of the stuff doesn’t relate to our class. We have a ton of extra projects we must do for credit.
Projects in math.
First, we have a presentation. Then GROUP projects, not working together on math problems but PROJECTS. We must write journals every day to turn in. Homework is optional though! We don’t get credit for that. We get points for doing Sodoku though!
I’m not good at math at all so I guess this is good. I turn in a bunch of bullshit and get credit. It will more than likely boost my grade some.
My favorite project is a group presentation where we have to write a song, poem or rap about something we covered in a chapter.
ON MATH.
That’s right I’ll be rapping about integers and rhyming about square roots.
Fuck Lil Wayne.

That sounds like the worst topic for rap ever. Actually, math is just heinous all round. I’m all for the abolishment of numbers. What have they ever done for me?

I hated math and have yet to find any useful application for things like Algebra and Geometry to my every day life. If I had a class like that, I would be running to my advisor with a drop slip in my hand, waving it like a white flag. LOL.

Oh, wow. That sounds awful. But that might just be because I loathe math (most of it anyway) and can’t think of anything more stupid than making math “creative.” We used to have to sing chemistry songs at 8am in high school, and that made me want to fall over and die. Sounds like your prof needs to go back to high school.

Your teacher sounds like she wanted to teach English but settled for math instead. I’m more of a creative person, so I’d be totally psyched for doing a rap if it meant that I could pass a math class. I’m terrible with numbers.

If you pull this off and record and post it on the internet, I will find some amazing prize for you. Seriously. That sounds hilariously amazing. Unfortunate, but still hilarious.

LOL Projects like this are exactly why I’m taking a break between my undergrad and grad school, if I go back. I can only handle so much professor eccentricity in one semester. I hope the rest of your classes are a little more straight forward and this one can be your fun, math related break.
I took a seminar class on love and sexuality where if we could find a south park episode that related to the class material we could watch south park in class.
We ended up watching 15 – 20 episodes.
We paid to watch South Park. /sigh

*Shudders* Group projects are bad enough! I can’t imagine them in a math class though! Although I knew a guy in high school who rapped about Pi as part of his math class’ “pi day celebration” on March 14….

I had a high school math teacher that was like that. She used to love to talk about funky integers and dirty decimals. I guess it kinda stuck with me though.

I had to keep a math journal for one of my math uni classes, and we did a ton of presentations but I never got the chance to rap. On a scale of 1-10, how nerdy is it that I might be a little jealous??

How funny! You’ll be surprised, though, how much you remember. I learned my multiplication in 2nd grade from a rap tape. “2×2 is 4, pffft, yeah!”

You get credit for a math class by writing a rap? That’s pretty funny! I wish I could do soduku for credit when I was in college. You got to post your rap when you’re done!

God, I hated group projects in school. Just despised them. But good luck. Work on those math gang signs (maybe a circle for one hand with other hand running through it for no solution? no?).

haha I always love/hate these teachers because they’re easy to ace and often a nice break especially with a busy or difficult schedule but I also end up feeling like I didn’t learn a thing.

Ha! I just re-read my comment, I don’t mean rock, like I can help you write a rap, I just meant they make sense. I’m not sure that makes sense though so I’m going to be done here!

That sounds incredible in a strange, strange way. I was never a fan of group projects back in school, but the proepect of writing a rap? Too good to be true. While studying for the SAT, my friend and I rewrote the words to ‘Brass Monkey.’ Maybe that’s a little inspiration?

Ugh! Math group projects? I feel your pain. I thought I was lucky enough to get through business calculus – was glad to take a C in that class. But now I have to take statistics! Not looking forward to it.
Good luck this semester!
