For my birthday in March, boyfriend’s parents gave me tickets for the Cirque du Soliel show, Kooza. Yesterday, the day finally rolled around for the show and since I was in San Francisco all last weekend, I didn’t get to see The Dark Knight. We decided to make whole day of it.

We hit up a 4:00 show of The Dark Knight at Webster Place. I know everyone and their mother has posted thoughts on it already so I’ll keep this brief. What the hell was up with Christian Bale’s Batman voice?! It was SO bad. Why couldn’t he talk normal? It made me burst into laughter a few times during the movie, I can’t even lie. Secondly, before I seen the movie, I figured all the Oscar hype for Heath Ledger was just because he had died. Honestly, he was amazing in this role. Creepy, maniacal and you couldn’t even tell it was Heath behind all that makeup. All in all, definitely lived up to the hype (minus Batman’s voice).

Right after the show, we headed up to the United Center for Cirque du Soliel. I was not expecting it to be in tents outside of the United Center, but it was. It was quite small but there were great views from anywhere you sat. The only bad thing was that they packed us in like sardines. The seats were so close together it was really uncomfortable. The show was great though. I am now convinced that these women do not have bones in their bodies because I was hurting FOR them. Then one of them did this thing where they were moving their legs around in circles over their head in like a reverse backbend. DUDE, it was some shit out of the Exorcist and had me cringing.
We are now trying to see about getting tickets for a Cirque show when we go back to Vegas in October because this was so great on a small scale, I can only imagine it on a larger one like in Las Vegas. I’m hoping I can score us tickets for Love at the Mirage. It was a great day. I had boyfriend all to myself and we had tons of fun.

I haven’t heard anyone say that about Bale’s voice so I am anxious to check it out. Well that and Heath’s performance. I hear the movie is awesome.
I loved Cirque when I saw it many years ago. I really need to go again- glad you had such a good day!

I saw The Beatles’ Love at the Mirage (my first Cirque du Soleil) and it was insane in the membrane. That show doesn’t have quite as much acrobatics as other Cirque shows–it seemed to be more about the music (and the SOUND SYSTEM, holy shit), awesome stunts and dancing, and a lot of really, really trippy images. It was amazing.
OH! ALSO! I said the EXACT SAME THING about Christian Bale’s Batman voice! I mean, I love the guy, really, but I burst out into hysterical laughter every time he spoke. I’m sorry.

i love cirque de soliel. when i was younger, i wanted to be a contortionist (one of those boneless women that you saw). every day, i practiced bending my body in crazy ways and then, one day, someone told me that they do actually remove ribs and such in order to better their performance! i felt cheated. and i stopped practicing.

Yay! Go see LOVE! I saw it in June, front row seats, and it was AMAZING – especially if you love the Beatles. Srsly, it’s wonderful to see the performances that come out of those songs. And you will start singing along at some point. I think knowing the songs really added to the show.

I agree! I couldn’t stop laughing at the Batman voice!
We saw Zumanity in Vegas last year – it was Cirque Du Soleil but with naked people. I really enjoyed it but it was in a really small venue so maybe it’s not what you’re looking for.

In all the previews I’ve seen for Batman, Heath Ledger gives me chills! I can’t wait to see the whole movie. Even if Christian Bale does have a lame batman voice, well, he’s still yummy to look at!

I’ve been dying to see “Love.” The soundtrack is amazing.
I thought Christian’s Bale’s voice was a little ridiculous, but having never seen a Batman movie, I assumed that was some kind of standard characterization of Batman. I feel better now that I’n not alone

It’s kind of funny to see “oh! how lovely” written in this pretty, girl pink font with a horrendously creepy Joker below it.
I don’t think I’ll see this movie till it’s at the cheap theater. Yes, I’m THAT cheap.
In other news, the Cirque looks AMAZING. I’ve always wanted to go. Please go in Vegas so I can live through your experience.

Fun! I saw the Cirque-something show at Sea World a few weeks back and now I really want to see another. And The Dark Knight, of course, though I’m sure seeing it in theaters will scare the bejesus out of me.

I think I’m the only one in the world that hasn’t seen The Dark Knight yet. I know I’m missing out on a lot.
That show sounded fantastic though. What a great time you had.

I haven’t seen The Dark Knight yet, but he had (I’m assuming) a similarly bizarre Batman voice for Batman Begins. Aside from also finding it kind of ridiculous myself, the only reason I could figure he chose to have that voice is to convey they terror Batman is supposed to strike into the hearts of his enemies. I say ‘whatev’.

I recently saw Cirque’s Saltimbanco show, and that was so amazing. I would love to go to Vegas to their “O” Show. It involves water and synchronized swimmers.

I agree- The Dark Knight=Amazing. Heath did an awesome job, but Batman’s voice was annoying. I was thinking about it during the movie though and I think his voice may have been so ridiculous so that people wouldn’t know he was Bruce Wayne? Maybe?

I am a huge fan of Cirque. I have only been twice (once maybe before you were born) and I would love for my honey to get to see it. I’m so glad you had a good time!
I may be the only loser who isn’t planning to see batman. I think I will hide now from the shame of it.

I am SO glad someone brought up the Batman voice. I didn’t like that at all but then I started to think that it was always like that and I’d just forgotten. I hope they leave that out in the next one.

We saw Love in Vegas in December 2006 and highly recommend it. I loved the octupus’ garden segment the most – it was really clever. I wanted to get tickets to Kooza but ended up not doing it because I wasn’t sure how hectic my summer semester was going to be. Didn’t see the dark knight yet, but have heard only good things about it so far.

All the buzz about Heath Ledger is pretty much the only reason I’d go see The Dark Knight. I am a big loser and have never seen any of the Batman movies, but the raves about this one are making me curious enough to spend $20 on a ticket and miniscule bag of popcorn.
Can anyone think of when action-blockbuster actors have won Oscars lately? I’m racking my brain…

I’ve heard so much hate for Bale’s Batman voice on the internet. Yes, it sounds a bit ridiculous, but, believe it or not, it was described to sound precisely like that in the comics. Don’t blame Bale, he is only being true to his sources…
Sorry for the rant. I really want to see Cirque du Soleil in any of its incarnations, so I’m a bit jealous..:-P

I’m so envious that you saw Kooza. I’ve wanted to see that one for a bit! Glad you enjoyed it. Next time you’re in Orlando, check out La Nouba. It’s awesome. And if you can’t see Love in Vegas, see O instead. It’s even BETTER!

The boy and I went to see TDK last night, and I really enjoyed it. I do have to agree with you, though. Bale’s Batman voice was weird. But Heath was amazing.
And Kooza sounds wild! I’m glad y’all made a day out of the two events.

Dark Knight was fantastic, hey?
I did get a kick out of Batman’s “raspy” voice. I guess he was just trying to both not be recognized and be intimidating at once… but it definitely was a little over-the-top.

OMG I know right? His voice was terrible!! The part where it was THE worst is where the joker is suspended in mid air in the building scene. I looked at J and was like; “No freakin’ way”!
