Who won? Find out after the jump. Also, read some dirt I read on the winner!
Fatima got the boot first. Anya and Whitney were to walk in a VERSACE (what!?) fashion show to battle it out. Anya didn’t work it like I thought she would. Whitney was pretty bouncy and hippy when she walked.
Who took the title of America’s Next Top Model?

On to the gossip!
Does this girl look familiar?

Oh yes, it is our winner, Whitney! Whitney? Skinny? Didn’t she say she was chubby and got made fun of all the time? Hmm.. Now we all know that ANTM is rigged. Last cycle it was so obvious that poor Saliesha would win and this time it was no surprise that ANTM had to set it up for Whitney to win. I mean, really. Tyra needs to back up the “kiss my fat ass” talk, right? So yes, that was the first thing I said when it became clear when watching tonight that Whitney would win.
After watching the finale, I hop on over to my favorite blog with the best Top Model recaps, FourFour and what do I see? This entry.
Rich says:
“I’d call this a symbolic victory, but this is ANTM: if it’s not symbolic, it’s as good as symbolic. However, earlier this week, I received an email from a source that would like to remain nameless (and, clearly, close to my heart) that suggests this victory is super-symbolic The mystery woman writes:
I debated on whether to share this given my source and you may have heard this already…The source is this wonderfully chatty boy in one of my classes…who says he went to high school with Whitney. The claim is that Whitney did not try out for top model but was approached on a plane by someone from the show. She was already doing modeling as a size 2 or 4 but because she was closer to a 4 she was a little too big for the show as a regular model. They told her that if she went and gained 10-20 pounds they would definitely put her on the show as “the plus-size model”. She’s about a 6 or 8 on the show. He even showed us this picture of her when she was smaller which was from a year ago.
He also said that she was going to make the top 3. That’s why I held out from saying anything for 3 weeks. I wasn’t sure if anything was credible. But since the “top 3″ thing came through…
This email arrived, mind you, before the pre-ANTM shots of a much slimmer Whitney hit ONTD.”
Now how about them apples? What do you think?

I think it is true that while it was a good thing she won, it was part of a bigger scheme to finally give it to a “plus-size” girl.
I think she looks better with a little meat on her bones.

bull shit. Stupid Tyra.
My husband called it. I thought Anya was more qualified but it was time for a plus-size model to win.

Jeez. Is ANTM important enough to bother rigging it? I mean….I know it is to ME…but like…to other people?

wwwooowww. i wanted anya to win. I think whitney was a little to pageanty for my likeing. I couldn’t believe they said “she is more of high end model” or whatever it was they said about anya….i thought she was much much better overall.
what bull shit. i can’t believe this show might still come back in fall. each season tyra gets worse and worse and worse. they need to get naomi campbell in on this shit. She’ll whip those “top models” into shape.

I was happy to see Whitney win. I thought it looked like they were grooming Anya for it the whole time. If it was rigged, they sure made Whitney go through the ringer for extra drama. Honestly, I don’t care if it’s rigged or not. For me, it’s just a guilty pleasure. But I think having someone who is normal sized is a good statement.

Well, no matter how she got there, I think she looks so much better with more weight on.

I don’t really care about ANTM, because I don’t watch TV much, and I don’t watch the show regularly, but this is very interesting. I can definitely see them doing something like that though, and I don’t know that I would’ve gained weight just to be on TV, especially if it was going to be rigged.

The black and white photo reminds me of a Nancy Drew book cover.

Juicy! Actually, I like the way Whitney looks now over the way she looks in those pictures. In those pics she just looks like a normal pretty girl but I think she looked gorgeous on the show. I’m okay with it being rigged. I mean, what isn’t?

Good scoop! I am happy that Whitney won – but I don’t like the shadiness. Remember Sara from Cycle 6? They sought her out in the mall and she made it to the Top 4.

Now I have to reevaluate my excitement about Whitney winning. I do think they are at least trying to show a positive image by having a “plus-sized” girl win, even if she was skinny before.

No freakin way!!! I loved Whitney all along… but I did feel like she had to win because Anya, while gorgeous, can’t talk to save her soul and I don’t think Tyra would let the “plus” girl get so far and not let her win!

That’s ridiculously interesting! I kind of figured that she’d win so Tyra can make a point, but still, I really wanted Anya to win. She was at least…night. Oh well.

Okay that is ridiculously crazy about Whitney. I was sort of rooting for her, but now the whole rigged thing kind of makes it not as fun…hmmmm.

so scandalous
this cycle was totally rigged – it became evident right around the time that Claire went home while Dom and Fat were still around
I can’t believe Anya made it through the Cover Girl commercial – what a joke that was

first of all, HELLO. how are you and goodness, i miss you.
your blog is looking as lovely as ever.
also, i am SO OUTRAGED at this. yeah, that’s right, i AM.
first of all, antm – i still watch you – but hi, snooze.fest. these seasons are nothing, nothing like what they used to be. oh, oops. cycles. so menstrual, oops, i mean, feminine of you, tyra.
when i was watching the finale last night, all i could think was how *thin* whitney looked. like, even in the first few episodes of the season she looked “bigger”. she’s a pretty girl – i’m not surprised she was approached by someone to get on the show. and i know tyra is all about wanting to ‘reshape the way the industry looks at plus size models’ but seriously. can’t handle this.
ok. ragey mccagey here is out.
hope you’re doing well, jamie!

I’m going to defend Whitney here. First of all, who is to say those pictures are only a year old?
Second, after having read Geri Halliwell’s biographies and just seeing her fluctuating weight in the media over ten years, I think it’s plausible Whitney was skinny at one point or even at many points. If she has trouble staying skinny, then it’s easy to gain a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Though I don’t think she gained like an obscene amount between those pictures and what we saw on ANTM.
BUT! In those pictures they showed after she won of her growing up, she didn’t seem like she was chubby, so hm…

Geez, what a downer. I’m glad that Whitney “won,” but I have to say, I’m glad the season’s over and I probably won’t watch it again. I mean, watching a competition that seems to be rigged (well, for the last few years, anyway)? Geez, I may as well watch WWE.
Yeah, I know that the rigging is a rumor, but really, I haven’t really liked the winners of the past few ANTMs (starting with the year that Nicole won). Sure, I know I’m not the most knowledgable person when it comes to modeling, but really, you can’t tell me that Kat and Claire are both worse models than Fatima and Dominique are. Please.
But really, the rigging (if it’s true) is kinda sad. Disappointing, even. Between this and hearing that Nina (Garcia) was let go from her position as fashion designer for Elle [read] and thusly might be in jeopardy of losing her Project Runway gig, I’m kinda bummed.
But hey, congrats to Whitney. And Anya.
Oh yeah! One more thing (that MAY get me to keep watching next cycle)… did anyone get the impression that Tyra was getting a little sick of all of Paulina’s bitchiness? I love Paulina, and I know she’s just being honest and trying to give criticism, but damn, there’s no need to be so brutal. Didn’t she say that Anya looked “dumb” in one of her pictures? That’s just messed up. Anyway, it might be interesting to see if they try to turn Paulina into more of a Janice (Dickinson) than a Twiggy. Or to see if she out-bitches both of them.
So, what other shows do you watch? I need an excuse to keep coming over here. Heh.

I must say that it takes a bit of the wind out of my sails to see the history, but if it was rigged, at least it was rigged in a good way. Now that’s a lame thing to say–shows how much of everythingis rigged.
