random stuff for sunday

Does anyone know if mailing gift cards require extra postage? I still need to get to the post office to mail the three gift cards to the winners from my contest because I fail at life. I just don’t know if it would be fine with a regular stamp or if it’s more. I’ve never mailed out one before. Help meee.

Also, does anyone have any tips on getting pups to stop nipping so much? Edie gets very excited and likes to chew, bite and nip. My hands are so scratched up from her sharp little teeth! I tell her No! but she is still a 10 week old puppy, so she doesn’t listen very well. I’m planning on signing her up for puppy classes in the next few weeks. My puppy is going to Kindergarten!

Tomorrow, I will be announcing another contest. I need some help with something and since you freaders are so creative and fabulous, I’m turning to you. Of course, you will be handsomely rewarded. With what? I’m still unsure, but I think think of something amazingly awesome.

It is motherfucking walk off! Please watch this video. If you love Tim Gunn as much as I do, you will love this. Christian is annoying as hell through most of it, but Tim makes up for it!

I am a big fan of lists. When I found out NaBloPoMo was going monthly starting with March and the theme was lists, I emailed Mrs. Kennedy and was like sign me up! So everyday in the month I will be adding a list to each entry. Now if people hate lists, hate me, hate what I write or don’t write, that’s fine…keep on scrolling in your reader until April. I’m just making it know that there will be lists, and plenty of them at that!

I suppose this whole entry could be considered a list of random things but I’m going to share another one anyway.

Movies I plan on watching today:
Oceans 11 (the original)
Paris Je T’aime (I already watched half!)
Gone Baby Gone

pretty sure I hit a wall w/the blog writing.

pretty sure it’ll lift soonly.

pretty sure I’ve got no clue what I’ma do next.

pretty sure this sounds more melodramatic than intended.

hm. i guess that’s a list, eh?

I don’t think it costs more to mail gift cards.

Let me know if Gone Baby Gone is fantabulous or not!

When my neighbor got his first corgi, he’d take the dog’s paw and put it (the paw) in its (the dog’s) mouth. So then the dog would bite its own foot. He got over the biting thing in a hurry.

I am 99% positive that it doesn’t cost more to send gift cards.

Oceans 11=awesome movie
Paris Je T’aime = alright, I enjoyed most of it but some of it was a little off center.
Gone baby gone= one of my least favorite movies of all time.

Have a good movie day!

Yeah, the comments are finally working!

Ok, no you don’t need extra postage to mail your gift cards. I mail them for work all the time and I have never had a problem, so you should be fine.

As for your sweet baby, I have one suggestion. Chewies! My girls have always loved the chicken basted chewies, especially when they were teething. Give her something good to chew on and she will stay away from your shoes! Muay importante!

Also I am doing NaBlPoMo so we’ll see how our lists goes! Do you have a Tada account? tada.com is one of the best things in my life! Check it out!

Happy Sunday!

Gone Baby Gone is a FABULOUS movie.
As for the “nipping” try pigs hooves. The smell like shit but it will focus her chewing efforts elsewhere and they are safer than pig ears.
:D

For the nipping problem, a good quick tap on the nose will learn em fast!

That video of Tim and Christian is hilarious! I am so ganking it for my blog.

[Reply]

Nah; It shouldn’t cost you extra to send a gift card.

My mom’s puppy is 7 months old and she still nips at me sometimes; I consider it a love bite until I bleed..

[Reply]

If I was doing the list thing I’d probably just write a list of all of the drinks I had last night. That’s the only thing I can comprehend right now.

loved gone baby gone…hope you like it.

and did you go outside today? lovely.

It doesn’t cost extra to mail gift cards and something that worked for me with the nipping was to make the noise of a litter mate who had been nipped too hard, thus signaling not to do that again. Its a very very high pitched MEEEEEP, or SQUEEEAK or whatever word you choose as long as you say it quickly and sharply in an extremely high pitched voice. It actually helped with my puppy who, as much as I hate to admit it, I thought was hopeless. Good luck.

When Willa was a puppy she had the same issues- the sharp puppy teeth wreaked havoc on my hands. I ended up buying her a puppy Kong with filler. It’s a chew toy that is fairly indestructible and you put a gooey substance in the center. If she bites, say NO loudly, then redirect her jaw to the toy. Always redirect her to some other kind of toy and she’ll learn after a few days of this (or at least she should)

Depends on how you are training the pup. We went with the whole Cesar method, so when he started chewing and mouthing us, we made our correction noise and would sometimes tap his muzzle. If he did it after we corrected him, we stopped interacting with him for awhile (minutes, here..). He got the picture, though he still does get a little mouthy sometimes when we’re loving on him.

For anything else he might chew, try bitter apple. Also, don’t leave your shoes where the puppy can get to them. Don’t be like me and lose a pair of killer Kenneth Cole brown pumps because you didn’t lock them in the closet and the puppy chewed the buckles off. That was a really hard lesson. I think dogs only chew high quality shoes, too. They do not care about those cheap heels you picked up at Target. They want your guilty shoes.

Paris Je’ Taime is one of my VERY FAVORITE FREAKING MOVIES. EVER.

[Reply]

I’d also suggest something else to chew on. But other than that i have no idea. They never realise how sharp those baby teeth are!

Since we got SoMi when she was 1, we missed the teething days. Not sure if pups are the same as babies, but what is you throw some chew toys in the freezer … they might like the cold on their teeth?

I think the Affleck brothers did a really nice job with Gone Baby Gone. The only question is whether they can do “really nice” with movies outside their comfort zone (which GBG clearly is). What did you think?

Unless the gift cards are made of lead you shouldn’t need extra postage.

When you puppy nips, grab her snout with one hand and hold it closed for 10 seconds. Your puppy can still breathe but the pressure and the ease with which you do this will make her associate nipping with pressure and your dominance.

Square envelopes cost more and anything that weighs more than an ounce costs more. The post office should have a scale that will tell you how much postage you need.

My pup is barely learning to stop biting and scratching but a tap on the nose with a rolled up newspaper always works. That’s what I’ve been learning at his puppy school. Good Luck! =)

That video makes me love Tim Gunn even more. I’m so glad you said Christian was annoying. I was so bummed that Chris didn’t win ‘fan favorite’. I so use the word ’so’ too much.

[Reply]

I don’t think it costs more to send gift cards. I could be wrong, though.

Oh, Tim Gunn. I love him.

gone baby gone- excellent!

It’s normal for Edie to nip at you, especially if you guys are playing or cuddling, especially while she’s teething. This is also the best time to show her that it’s not okay. I have to agree with Vanessa– when she gets overzealous with her nipping, act like another puppy by making a sharp, high-pitched noise and, most importantly, stop playing with her. For me, that means standing up and crossing my arms until she calms down. She’ll learn pretty quickly that playing is cool, but biting isn’t. I learned that in Puppy School. I am a huge advocate for Puppy School. You learn how to be a better mom and Edie will learn how to play well with other dogs and other dog owners. It’s good to socialize her.

Mailing gift cards shouldn’t cost extra. As long as it’s not two or three in one!

Not sure what the trainer would recommend, but I would always just hold her mouth closed until she got a bit uncomfortable and say “No teeth”. Now that she’s older she still understands what that means when she gets a little too into playing with us.

I don’t think gift cards require extra postage. They are pretty lightweight.

Gone Baby Gone! ooooh, let us know how it is. I debated it at the video store last night and instead settled on We Own The Night. Excellent!

With Bowie, I grabbed that snout of hers, looked her directly in the eye and said, “NO!” very loudly. Bowie is super confident and egotistical (if dogs can be!) so the process went as follows:

-When I first started doing that, she caught on to it meaning she was being disiplined so she wouldn’t look me in the eye. She would avoid eye contact at all costs. So, I would just hold her snout really hard until she was forced to and then told her NO! again.

-Eventually, this method didn’t do anything. It was like, “Oh what? You’re telling me no? Screw you! I’m doing it anyway.” So, I don’t know what kind of a doggie mom you are, but I eventually told her NO! and then smacked her on the snout.

Now, she doesn’t bite me ever. She definitely knows not to do that. Now my only problem is, she knows she can’t get away with it on me, but she can with other people. So, she’ll nip at my friends when they come over. I’m having a hard time teaching her manners in this area, but I’m hoping it’ll improve with age.

I agree with everyone else though when they say to have plenty of chew toys around. The Kong is the most amazing thing ever and you don’t have to buy the fillings if you don’t want…just buy some peanut butter and stuff some of it in there. This will keep her occupied for at least an hour, if you need a break, and the rubbery surface of the Kong feels good in her teething mouth.

Also, whenever you play with her, make sure you have a toy between you and her. Never just play with your hands right now. Eventually, that will be fine, but right now…no! She’ll think it’s cool to bite your hand if you play with your hand, know what I’m sayin’?

Sorry so long! Because Bowie is only five months old, this stuff is all fresh in my memory. Good luck!

How did you like Gone Baby Gone? I just watched it this past weekend, and I thought it was really well done!
