Project Runway: 407

Another Wednesday passes, as does another crappy Project Runway episode. Today we write about prom. Oh, prom! Do you remember your prom? I went with friends to prom, although I did get asked like 2 days before (who waits until 2 days before prom to ask someone?! Seriously.) but I turned him down because I already made plans with the girls. On to the only thing that matters for prom: the dress. I lived out all my princess dreams that day, well not all as I still want to be a princess when I grow up. Yeah, that’s right, I looked like a big, lilac cupcake on my prom night and I loved EVERY FREAKING SECOND OF IT. I’m not ashamed of my princess dress. Although, now if I had to go to prom, Betsy Johnson all the way, dude. That crazy, cartwheelin’ broad knows exactly how to make a party dress.

So if you haven’t guessed by now, the challenge was to make a prom dress for a high schooler. The girls got to pick which designer they worked with though. Victorya got picked last and the girl told her that she ended up being stuck with her. Ha! That’s what you get Victorya for being so boring and bossy. Christian seemed to have met his match when it came to his client. This bratty little girl wouldn’t shut up and Christian hated it, then tried to blame everything on her during judging. Maybe now he knows what the other designers feel like when he opens his mouth?

Oh and did Heidi not look fierce as hell with this dress on? I need this dress in my life.

Let’s get to the designers’ dresses:

Kit
I thought this didn’t look anything like prom and wasn’t very cute either. Kit has kind of been coasting by, I’m surprised she is still around. Nothing amazing, nothing horrible, just blah.

Jillian
It flowed very nicely as she was walking down the runway but again, not very prom-y. I liked the colors though.

Chris
Definitely promish. Not thrilled on the color, but definitely looked nice.

Victorya
More of a party dress than anything. Not prom. The design of it was nice, I didn’t like the colors of the jewels though.

Rami
This looks like every other drapey gown he has made. Drapey twisty braided curtains came to mind. Made the girl look way older and the color was pukey green.

Sweet P
Ah! At last a prom dress. I loved the color, the champagne looked great with the girl’s skin tone. It was elegant and made well. She should have won.

Christian
Ew Ew Ew. What is with Christian and poop dresses? He needs to chill out with the brown dresses. She had a lovely skin tone and could have dressed her in something more flattering colorwise and designwise. UGLY.

Ricky
He cried exactly ten minutes into the episode. Trust me, I checked the time as soon as it happened. This dress was awful all around. Washed the girl out, ugly shoes, blah blah blah.

Kevin
This dress made his girl look 35 years old. Not flattering at all.

Winner: Victorya
Who should have won: Sweet P

Sent home: Kevin
Who should have went home: Christian or Ricky

Ricky’s design was the worst with Christian coming in a close second. I would rather have Ricky’s crybaby ass stick around than look at Christian’s jacked up hair and hear his ridiculous comments. I cannot believe they sent Kevin home. Absolutely ridiculous.

So what do you think, are the judges getting soft or have they stayed the same and have the designers just sucked this season?

P.S. Go de-lurk.

I love the color of the blue in both dresses. I wish I had bravo :-(

GAH! I only liked Jillian’s, Chris’ & Sweet P’s… all the other ones were flippin horrendous. Blechy phoo.

Oh, and prom? Totally went with friends to both of mine. Had the best time EVER.

Also – I met Heidi Klum at her halloween party in ‘04. My mother’s company was one of the party sponsors so we all went. Was SO COOL talking to her in German. She was super, duper sweet!

I agree – yawn.

I didn’t go to prom – I was too cool (ummm…yeah, that’s why). I threw the most kick ass post prom party ever though – 1/2 the school was there (my parents were out of town).

I believe the reviewer on Enterainments Weekly’s, TV Watch, described Kit’s dress as the product of a smurf mating with the electronic memory game Simon. I think that pretty much sums it up.

Greadt Post. Thanks for taking my mind off of food.

I liked the concept of Sweet P’s dress but the midsection kept throwing me. It looked like it was pulling and what’s up with the crazy darts.

Never before have I wanted so badly to go inside my TV and smack someone. Last night Christian’s client was dreadful, annoying and that’s the freaking dress she wanted and then she complained? Christian had every right to call her out on it.

I think Christian deserved it, haha. He talks so much shit all the time. Finally someone shot it right back!

[Reply]

I was so upset that Kevin went home. He did NOT deserve it.

That dress is STUNNING. I think I want it too!

Heidi’s dress is killer. The rest…eh.

Haha actually I love Christian, I think he’s hilarious. I hated that wench who kept talking back to him and pretending like she knew anything about design. I wasn’t a huge fan of Victorya’s dress, I thought it looked like she had a freakish bandana around her neck.

I only liked Jillian and Sweet P’s…

I think the judges have LOST it if they think that the blue would be worn by a girl to prom. Too old to talk about prom… thats what hte judges are. Seriously? EWW

Oh my gosh, it just occurred to me what Rami’s dress looks like! It’s like she wore a green dress with a matching green apron, and then threw the apron over her shoulder! I can understand having a certain aesthetic that you gravitate towards, and Rami does make some lovely things, but he seriously needs to push his boundaries and do something DIFFERENT.

Poor Christian though. I know he’s annoying as crap, but I find him kind of endearing. He’s all bark and no bite and really does have a lot of talent, although I think he has a lot of growing to do before he’d be able to win a contest like this. But I really did feel bad for him having to deal with that girl as a client. I mean, he’s only 4 years older than her, she’s more his peer than the rest of the designers–that can’t be easy!

Anyway, I’m totally highjacking the comments, but I agree, Sweet P definitely should have won and Ricky should be gone, that dress was total ass whereas Kevin’s was only partially ass.

Sweet P’s was the best, with Chris as my second favorite. I love/hate Christian at the same time.

I really liked Victorya’s dress. I think it could be prom-appropriate, depending on how fancy your prom is. I was just lamenting on Tiff’s blog earlier that I wish I would have had a less formal prom so I could have worn a party dress like that instead of the full-length, way too grown-up dress I did wear. (The peeps on Laguna Beach: The Real O.C. always wore short, flirty party frocks to the prom and it made me uberjealous.)

I didn’t watch tonight, so thanks for this awesome update!

I LOVE the dress Heidi is wearing!

[Reply]

The dresses were so blahh. But you’re right–Heidi looked fierce, as she always does no matter what she’s wearing (though 99% of the time the clothes she wears are amazing too). I think I’d like to be her…yep, that would be cool.

[Reply]

Yeah, I agree. Although Ricky is slightly entertaining, he or Christian should have gone home. Kevin’s dress was bad but it wasn’t the worst and the fact that Victorya won was just wrong.

[Reply]

Whew. Man, tuxes are so much easier to deal with.

When I went to prom (‘01), my mom sewed me a replica of a dress from the movie Titanic. I know that sounds cheezy, but it was freaking awesome. It took months, and I sewed hundreds of swaski crystals on it. My mom is an amazing seamstress and I still feel like its a beautiful, classy dress. I’ll have to post photos sometime.

I really appreciate you re-capping Project Runway since we don’t get Bravo.

I actually love the Victorya dress! Not what I would want for prom, but it’s still super hot.
