Confession time

It is most definitely confession time, my lovelies. I have done something bad.

Remember (in this entry) I was complaining about stepping in slush and getting my feet all wet because I happened to be wearing Converse? Well, I decided it was definitely time for some winter boots. I decided I was not spending a lot of money on these boots because they would get gross from being wet and in the snow all the time and, well, I have much better things to be spending my money on right now! While doing some Christmas shopping, I stop at Target for the odds and ends that I happen to need. I got the cutest wrapping paper! It’s striped and has PINK it and I love it! I decided to check out the boots while there.

I walk in the shoe aisle and there they were. Staring at me. Daring me to pick them up. Laughing in my face, as they knew they finally won.

Yes. Hideously, ugly Ugg knock offs for $20.

They won.

I lost.

A tad hypocritical? Probably. I can assure you though, I will never be wearing these out, where anyone I know can see me. It’s a strictly when we are outside relationship. Never will you find me with these ridiculous things on and a denim mini or fully made up face and PINK sweat suit.

You may have won this battle, ugly boots, but I’m just using you. I will never love you.

uggs make me wanna throw up. that’s sad, cuz some women look kinda hot in them, but it’s those girls with the denim minis or anyone who looks like jenny from the block that just ruins it all for me.

i still approve of your purchase. purely functional.

I think they’re nice! I posted a while ago about boots and all my readers seem to really hate uggs. I like them though!

[Reply]

I’m not a big fan of Uggs, either (and MAN, are they popular on my college campus), but they do look ridiculously comfortable and toasty warm. I just don’t get the girls who wear them with tiny outfits and bare legs. If their feet are that cold, why isn’t the rest of them?

[Reply]

I will always go into Target with one thing in mind and leave with 10. It’s subversive like that. As for the fake Uggs (Fuggs, appropriately enough), just jump in extra slush puddles to show them who’s boss.

[Reply]

i had a pair of uggs until puppeh destroyed them :( They were one of my favorite pairs of shoes – perfect for taking the dog out in the early morning and late night before bed, they were warm for my vermont visits in the winter, and they were easy to slip on. I love love loooooved them.

I need to replace them but i don’t know if i want to spend $130 on another pair of boots that puppeh is likely to destroy in another year *sigh*

[Reply]

There is no winning and losing when it comes to foot wear darling.

[Reply]

I don’t hate them. Just no denim mini skirts with them, and I’m cool. They look soft. :)

[Reply]

Going into Target can be dangerous as there are so many good finds there – I love Uggs because they are so cozy but here in California we all have wardrobe malfunctions as we have no idea what to pair them with.

[Reply]

Let me tell you – I own 2 pairs of Uggs (one normal with the suede-ish outside and one with a hard exterior that’s better for snow) and I LOVE them. I don’t wear skirts with them and I do not under any circumstances tuck my pants into them. They are insanely warm and insanely comfortable and I absolutely support them (and their knockoffs!) as a functional item. People who wear them as a fashion statement..that’s another story.

[Reply]

They look warm and toasty and good for wearing in the snow and slush. As long as you are not wearing them with a mini, I think you are OK.

And girl, we all have our dirty little shoe habits. I’ve been debating a pair of Croc slippers and I hate Crocs. I’m a little afraid if I buy them and say I’ll never wear them out of the house, their evil selves will take over my mind and next thing you know I’ll be wearing them out…

[Reply]

AK! It’s like you were reading my mind. I was thinking of writing something about Uggs just yesterday. I have two pairs and wear them ALL THE TIME. It’s freaking cold in Canada and Uggs are one of the few pairs of boots that don’t scream HEY, LOOK! I’M WEARING WINTER BOOTS! Also, with recess/lunch outdoor supervisions, they are great for slipping in and out of. So there. I said it. I have Uggs. And worse yet, I like them .

[Reply]

hahaha i own a pair of (hideous) ugg knockoffs too!!!

[Reply]

I made fun of my mom endlessly when she bought a pair of Uggs a few weeks ago.
I believe Uggs and Crocs should be banned.
That said, after hearing how much she (and the 2 billion other people) love them, I’m half temped to try them.
But i won’t.
Out of principle.

Just please no mini skirts and no silly pants inside of boots thing. That’s my biggest fashion pet peeve, i think, besides the hair poof.

[Reply]

Haha! I totally understand gettings Uggs/Ugg knock-offs because of the cold weather, seriously, but AH. Girls who wear them with skirts confuse me/make me want to claw my eyes out.

[Reply]

Knock offs?

I think you won.

[Reply]

I totally buy these EVERY YEAR. They’re so cheap! Especially if you’re just going to trash them in the snow (like I do). And seriously, they’re so comfortable and really not that ugly once you have pants over them.

I approve.

[Reply]

Haha! Brilliant. often times i see the knock offs and my hand has to stop from reaching out and grabing them, b/c i too dread to been seen in them… or gasp even in spring with a skirt… errr I hate.

[Reply]

ps you’re getting the blogroll!

[Reply]

ok. maybe i’m lame, but i have uggs (aussie dogs, actually, same difference) and i love them. however, i wear them only with sweats or jeans.

but i do love them. i’ll admit it.

[Reply]

haHA!!! I told you so! I love my Target faux-Uggs. Aren’t they perfect? And so not ugg-ly!

[Reply]

I definitely had some Ugg knock offs too! And I definitely only wore them inside, man those things really are comfy.

[Reply]

Honestly? I secretly love them, even though I claimed to hate them. And moving to England in the dead of winter, may see me purchasing some. SSH.

[Reply]

NOOOOO! You’ve gone over to the darkside.

[Reply]

get em really dirty and messed up and show up how you really feel!

[I've got a similar knockoff pair meant for getting all snowy and salty and generally slushy. it's okay, even among us elist fashionistas.]

[Reply]

p.s. did you ever watch Rich Girls? Remember that episode where (I forget there names, and regrettfully my friends called the girls Cow and Chicken, but one of them was probably named Ali) Ali was talking about Cargo pants (because those were in!) and how in the Midwest, people needed Cargo Pants because they carried around seed and worked on farms, but in Hollywood they would wear them with like a cute top and heels. I’m totally jacking up that quote, but that’s basically how I feel about Uggs in the Midwest. We need them, for their intended function.

[Reply]

Love mine. You’ll grow to love yours too. You just can’t help it. You’ll see. :)

[Reply]

I’m glad you will never wear those with an actual outfit. They are pretty much just outdoor slippers. But if they keep your feet warm (and were only $20!) I guess we can let it slide just this once.

[Reply]

If they’re warm and keep your feet dry and were only twenty bucks, then I would say that ugliness is a small price to pay. :p

Most people’s feet look bad in the wintertime anyways.

[...] had to redeem myself to the fashion world after that last post. I’m incredibly disappointed in myself. I’m glad some of you understand my reasoning! [...]

Haha I loved this post! A lot of people hate Uggs. At least you admit that you’re just using them! Did people stare at you in the line? LOL!

[Reply]

So long as you keep control of the relationship, I think it might be a win. If you begin to feel the urge to wander out in a mini skirt in 20 degree weather, however, I would sprinkle holy water on them and relegate them to the back of your closet. Just in case.

[Reply]

well at least your toes will be warm and dry…and really they aren’t THAT bad. :)

[Reply]

Haha! I never really like Uggs until I tried on a pair and felt how warm they are. I never bought them. But I probably would for $20. :)

[Reply]

I disliked Uggs for a long time…Now I have 3 pairs. I honestly don’t think I could get through the winters without them. They are so comforable, keep me extremely warm, and I actually think the *can* look cute. I do not wear them with skirts. I do wear them over my jeans because a lot of my jeans don’t fit over them, and they keep my jeans from getting nasty, wet, and dirty. I am obsessed with the tall zipper ones. Sooo worth the money!

[Reply]

They are nowhere near as ugly as my Wal-Mart style winter boots with the two pound sole. Trust me.

[Reply]

i remember i had a fake pair of uggs in college- i think they were actually slippers. I wore them ALL the time around the house- my hubs (then boyfriend at the time) despised them, but i llllllllloved them! The dog eventually destroyed them :(

[Reply]

Hahahahahahaha- God bless you for the last two paragraphs. May that trend rest in peace and may those little tarts do a little reading and buy some real shoes. You? You’re excused. It’s snow, you should actually be commended for saving your lovlies from the nastiness and sacrificing these bad boys on the altar.

[Reply]

I would’ve sworn the Ugg trend was on its way out two years ago. But another winter rolls around and they’re still holding on tenaciously, on the BU campus at least. As long as you’re using them for function instead of fashion, I guess it’s ok. :)

[...] On to other matters of the non-bloggy kind. We are having some freakishly spring weather over here in Chicago for the past few days! It’s been in the 50s, kind of wet and rainy and we are having a flash flood warning until tomorrow. It’s a fabulous change from freezing, below-zero temperatures and heavy snow though.   Chicago will set me straight soon enough with a drastic change that will leave me scrambling for my parka and ugly boots.
